Image of the Heavenly Man
“And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven.” 1 Corinthians 15:49
As people created in Christ Jesus, we have great hope. The day we met Jesus, our lives were changed; we were “born from above.” You and I know the joy at the birth of a new baby; we marvel at how the little one is the spitting image of mommy or daddy. Multiply that delight in the awe of our being born again and now bearing the image of Jesus. We are sons and daughters of our heavenly Father!
Yet what a daunting thing it is to bear the image of the “heavenly man.” Thank goodness doing so is not of our own undertaking but is what Christ did for us on the cross and in His resurrection. He made it possible for each of us to enter the kingdom of heaven.
As we focus ourselves on Him daily, we “are being transformed into his likeness … which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:18). We have been set free from our earthly origin, and now are being transformed by the heavenly Man. Whether we’ve walked with Jesus since birth or came to know Him later in life (like Paul or even like the thief on the cross), we image Christ.
