Saved Through His Life
“For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!” Romans 5:10
Even the strongest, life-long Christians have to guard against a tendency to think that somehow we need to do something to be accepted by God. The opposite is true: God fully accepts us just as we are through Christ Jesus, our Lord. Sin has tainted the heart of man since the Garden of Eden. But Christ’s death paid the penalty for our sins so that we would be accepted and reconciled to the Father.
This is the gospel, the good news! It’s the message that saves us. Jesus gave His own life to us to rescue us from death. Find another king who would do that! After Jesus’ resurrection, He placed His Spirit, who is life, into His believers, to go with us, counsel us, and hearten us for our journey. Now we are alive to God, “saved through his life.”
Delight in this good news! The One who dwells in us is He who is perfect for us, always standing before the Father interceding for us. What we cannot do, Christ does for us. In this way, we experience victory. We can’t work to earn it, but by God’s grace, we can certainly receive what He offers.
