Enriched in Christ

“For in him you have been enriched in every way—in all your speaking and in all your knowledge—because our testimony about Christ was confirmed in you.” 1 Corinthians 1:5-6

We who believe in Jesus have been given a new realm in which to live, and that is in Christ. When we were born, we were born of this earth, born of the flesh; that was our realm. But when we know Jesus as our Savior, we have been born again, born of the Spirit, and born from above. Our new environment is Christ. Notice the tense of the above verse: “You have been enriched.” It has been accomplished already!

Do you know what the alternative is to being in Christ? Being in ourselves. And this way of life confronts us on nearly every front all the time. Daily we’re bombarded with slogans and social media outlets encouraging us to live for ourselves and live “the good life” rich with material things. The sinful, natural world can’t even conceive of what it is to be enriched by Jesus, living in His Spirit.

In Christ, we begin to share His attributes and His mindset. The fruit of the Spirit—all Jesus’ attributes—become ours. The mindset of Christ becomes ours (as Paul encourages us in Philippians 2:5). The more we rely on Christ, the more we are enriched by Him.
