Good News for All

“He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Thessalonians 2:14

Some of us may remember a small, paperback 1966 edition of the New Testament called “Good News for Modern Man.” Since the word “gospel” means “good news” in the original Greek, it’s a fitting title. Any time I read the word “gospel,” I’m reminded of the good news that Jesus is. Paul tells us we are then called to share this good news with others.

When the Lord Jesus calls us, we respond by coming to Him. Whether we walked down an aisle when some preaching of the Word touched us, or whether we whispered Jesus’ beautiful name at bedtime as a child, we come to Him. Even right now, we can come to Him.

The sin and shame that used to identify us have been paid for and washed away by Jesus’ perfect life, death, and resurrection. We dwell in His presence, the good story of the gospel shaping us into who He wants us to be. We share in His glory in small ways now, but in eternity we will know fully what Jesus meant when He said of us in His John 17 prayer, “I have given them the glory that you gave me” (v. 22). What good news for modern man!
