Children of the Father
“If by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” Romans 8:13-14
Since God is the Father of His family, we can be sure that there will be some resemblance of Himself in His children. His family are those who have His life in them and who have been given eternal life, which comes only from the One who is eternal. God made this possible when He poured out His Spirit on all those who believe in His Son, Jesus.
The Lord’s family is made up of those who do His will by placing their faith in Christ. Those who do His will are His brother, His sister, and His mother (see Mark 3:35). In other words, they are all His family. Think of it: the Creator of the Universe has determined that you and I would be members of His family, children who bear His likeness and reflect Him! It would be natural for someone to know us and say, “I can see Jesus in him,” or “She is clearly a child of God.”
We may not have realized it, but we were being led by His Spirit when we became His children. Now, as His sons and daughters, we do His will according to the Spirit's leading. What a privilege to be loved and accepted in the family of God!
