Come, Lord Jesus
“The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let him who hears say, “Come!” Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.” Revelation 22:17
I love the predictable nature of each school year. There are things that you can always count on. Sixth graders start smaller than I expect. Senioritis begins in 11th grade. Graduation comes too quickly. The Bible ends with a promise that is even more dependable than any patterns I notice as an educator. Jesus is coming back.
Jesus assures us, “Yes, I am coming soon” (Revelation 22:20). The church has historically responded with the short prayer: “Come, Lord Jesus.” There’s an urgency to the promise of Jesus—He’s coming soon. And there is hope and certainty in our response—“Amen.”
So how should we prepare? Verse 17 urges us as Christ’s bride to take the living water we’ve been given and share it. We are to call out to the lost, saying, “Come!” As they drink of the water of life, they too will join us in crying out “Come!” to all who are thirsty. Voices will say together, “Come, Lord Jesus!”
