Everything Made Well
“People were overwhelmed with amazement. ‘He has done everything well,’ they said. ‘He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.’” Mark 7:37
I tell my students that often God moves through the most ordinary situations: the kindness of a friend, the faithful preaching of His Word, prayer with others. Yet we often look for God to move in extraordinary, extravagant ways. We neglect to notice how He reaches into the common circumstances of our lives.
Ironically, while we might overlook God’s work in the mundane, we also can be so accustomed to the miracles in Scripture that we hardly think twice about them. In Mark 7, a man who is deaf and mute is brought to Jesus. And Jesus does something extraordinary. He heals him by the power of His words, “Be opened!”
No one expected such a miracle! When the crowd witnessed it, they immediately recalled the prophecies of old. Isaiah 35 promised a Savior who would cause the deaf to hear and the mute to sing for joy. And now, right before their eyes, Jesus was fulfilling that prophecy!
Think of the thrill of seeing Isaiah 35 fulfilled before your very eyes. Are you in awe of how God continues to work, both in the miraculous and the mundane?
