The Tree of Life
“Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.” Revelation 22:14
Keep the end in sight. At the school where I am a principal, we begin each year by planning the end. What does success look like by the time May and June will roll around? What must we do now to achieve that success? Keeping the end in sight is important from the first day of school.
God had the end in sight from the beginning. In the last chapter of Scripture, we find ourselves looking at the Tree of Life whose fruit offers eternal nurturing. It’s the same tree that first appeared in Eden before the Fall, the tree Adam and all of humanity was blocked from. What if our story ended right there?
Praise God it doesn’t! At the very closing of the Bible, we are welcomed back and given access to the Tree of Life forever. What changed? Our sin barred us from the Tree of Life, but now in Jesus, our sin is washed away. Fully righteous and cleansed in God’s eyes, we are no longer separated from Him by sin!
Keep the end in sight, dear friends. One day we will feast on the fruits of the Tree of Life as we worship God for all eternity.
