Be Still
“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14
I’m sure you have found yourself at one time or another in a circumstance that felt completely hopeless. You could see there was no way out and no one around to help. It’s easy in those times to grow impatient and discontent, as if God’s faithfulness isn’t sufficient to see you through.
The Israelites felt that on several occasions. At one point they were stuck between a vast sea and Pharaoh’s army with no way out. It was hopeless. Would this be the end? In that moment, Moses spoke words of comfort to them: “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. … The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still” (vv. 13-14).
God’s faithfulness to His people does not waver based on their circumstances. When I reach the place where I wish things could be different, that’s my time to remember, the Lord will fight for me; I need only to be still. Is it time for you to stop trying and start entrusting yourself to the God who rescued the Israelites from Egypt? Know that He will fight for you.
