Like the Bereans
“Now the Berean were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”
Acts 17:11
Have you heard the phrase “Be a Berean”? It’s often used to encourage Christians to study God’s Word diligently. And for good reason! When the Jewish Bereans first heard the gospel, they didn’t just take Paul’s word for it; they went to Scripture to verify it. They knew if this message was true, it would align with what God had revealed already. Their eagerness to examine the truth led many to believe in Christ—not just among the Jews, but among their Gentile neighbors as well. “Many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men” (v. 12).
The Bible isn’t just another book. It is living and active (Hebrews 4:12). God speaks through it to transform hearts and lead people to salvation. The Bereans show us that studying Scripture is more than an academic exercise—it’s a spiritual experience.
Let’s eagerly open our Bibles today, trusting that God will work through His Word to save us, strengthen our faith, and draw us closer to Him. Are you searching the Scriptures daily to see what is true?
