Celebrate Family
“God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.” Psalm 68:6
Jesus grew up in a human family, one where at times He may have been misunderstood. But He was raised and nurtured there. He was rooted there. At the end of His life while He hung on the cross, Jesus looked after the welfare of His beloved mother (see John 19:6-7).
For various reasons, many people don’t have a sense of rootedness in their families. Our sin-stained world leaves people broken, uncertain, often traumatized, and aching to belong. Paul addressed this topic when he wrote to the church at Ephesus, assuring them as well as us of our adoption through Jesus Christ into God’s eternal family. In fact, this is a common theme as he writes to the churches everywhere.
Regardless of age or season of life, each of us needs to know the love and care of our heavenly Father. Because of Jesus, we can run into His open arms to find security and assurance. In Him we have a place of worth and value. If you have the blessing of a solid family life, celebrate that! But also marvel at the privilege and joy of being in the household of God.
