Celebrate Peace
“Let the peace of God rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you are called to peace. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:15
History is filled with the accounts of the many ways peace is disturbed. “World peace” … will we ever achieve it? The believers in Colosse were living in a time of persecution and had reason for insecurity and anxiety. Paul himself, imprisoned for his faith, was not exactly enjoying a carefree life. Yet into this chaotic society, Paul writes the words, “Let the peace of God rule in your hearts.”
While it may not always be attained in the world around us, Paul urges us to let peace rule in our hearts. There in our inmost beings, the comfort and assurance of Jesus’ power in our lives reigns supreme. Though our circumstances may be upsetting, we can submit to Christ’s rule of peace. How wonderfully freeing! No longer must we be enslaved by worries, fears, and anxieties.
This is not a one-time peace, but a day-by-day or even a moment-by-moment gift. It’s something we are called to. When the cares of life threaten to overcome, place yourself under the authority of the Prince of Peace and receive comfort from beyond human understanding.
