Celebrate the Birth
“The angel answered, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.’” Luke 1:35
The coming of a child calls for celebration. I remember answering my cell phone and hearing my granddaughter’s exuberant voice with the news that she and her husband were expecting a child. I couldn’t stop the tears of joy. She’s our first-born grandchild, so now the next generation was starting.
Imagine young Mary’s surprise when the angel came delivering news to her that she’d have a baby. It might have brought shock and confusion to Mary’s parents and family. But even without understanding how this could be (Mary herself asked the angel for an explanation), they would have celebrated the coming and then the arrival of a baby.
The Creator of the universe came to us as a newborn, in the form which no one can resist celebrating. Think of how even non-believers observe the birth of Christ at Christmas time. We who know Jesus as our Savior and as the Son of God can celebrate infinitely more! That wondrous birth set in motion God’s plan to save us from our sins.
We celebrate the birth of babies, but we rejoice even more that we, too, are part of God’s family.
