Celebrate Truth
“Paul, … an apostle of Jesus Christ for the faith of God’s elect and the knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness— … Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.” Titus 1:1, 4
Paul wrote instructions to Titus, his beloved son in the faith who was left in Crete to take care of unfinished business for the early church there. It wouldn’t be an easy job because even one of their own prophets had said, “Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons” (v. 12). As new believers, they had to be taught sound doctrine and encouraged to live a vastly different kind of life. It was practical teaching, calling them to put away their former ways and intentionally pursue holiness.
You and I, too, have been called as God’s children to reflect His character in everyday life. God’s Word is what is true and can be trusted. To Jewish believers, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31). The Word of God has transforming power over our former ways of life.
Long ago God promised us new life in Him—and He doesn’t break promises! When the time was exactly right, He sent His Son to proclaim the truth we celebrate today.
