Celebrate the Friendship
“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15
It’s hard to imagine how the followers of Jesus felt when He elevated the status of their relationship. What an honor to be called His friends and to be given the secrets of the kingdom! They had experienced much during their years together. Intimate friendship takes time and is tested during the process until a sacred trust is established.
Has your life been enriched through meaningful relationships? You may have had to take some risks and be vulnerable at times, but the rewards of a true friendship are well worth it. In time we age, we confront declining health, and we perhaps relocate. Our established friendships change or fade; we consider how to develop new ones. In the retirement community where I live, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the openness among the residents.
The most dependable and wonderful friendship of all is the one we have with Jesus. God made us to be in fellowship with others, but He showed us the beauty of that in the friendship of One who loves us so much He laid down His life for us. Celebrate that friendship!
