Celebrate Renewal

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10

What do you think of when you hear the word “renew”? Subscriptions, memberships, licenses, leases … these are things that can be renewed. But the Bible speaks of renewing the mind. And here in Psalm 51 David talks about a renewed spirit. I too have had to beg the Lord again and again to renew a right spirit in me.

For example, recently I started my day full of anxiety because of two appointments with the potential for huge expenses: a car inspection for our old car and a trip to the dentist. My confidence in God which seemed so solid when things were going well gave way to worry when trouble was on the forefront. Can you relate to that?

What we need is a renewal that only the Lord can give. When He renews our minds and our thinking, we receive God’s grace in our moments of need. It is available! Peace can be restored when we look to Him!

Of course, by afternoon of my stressful day, all was well. It’s easy to lose perspective when confronted with the cares of life. Let Jesus’ tender care for you renew your thinking today.
