Celebrate His Strength
“That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10
For almost 50 years, a morning walk has been part of my daily routine. It started as part of a recovery plan for a back injury but in time became something I would rarely do without. On my walk I could set aside the responsibilities of life, feel God’s presence, and pray to Him.
During the last year, however, health issues interfered with this pattern. I found myself considering Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians. How do we delight in dealing with weakness, facing hardships, or bearing difficulties? How could Paul delight in persecutions and trials? He did so by realizing that God sovereignly uses our troubles for His glory, “for Christ’s sake.” In our weakness, the power and majesty of Jesus are made known.
When you struggle to delight in weakness, celebrate God’s strength. Thank Him for walking with you in your sufferings. You’ll find peace and joy. I’ve found those here in a retirement community, even where physical limitations abound. My own mobility is improving; I’m taking walks again. And I am growing in dependence on the Lord.
