Celebrate the Creator
“O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.” Psalm 8:1
David acknowledges the majesty of God and then goes on in verse 4 to reflect, “What is man that you are mindful of him?” Not only are we invited to be members of God’s family, but we have been given authority to rule over the works of His hands. In the beginning when creation was complete, God gave instructions for the care of the garden He’d made for them (see Genesis 2:15). We, too, are to care for our world.
As a child at the feet of my grandmother, I memorized this beautiful Psalm 8 passage. It calls me to a place of worship when I see the moon shining outside my window or view the Milky Way and other wonders in the night sky. As morning awakens with the sunrise, I rejoice and find praise flowing from my heart.
Can the Creator of all this really be mindful of our small, insignificant selves? Yes! As amazing as it is, the God of the Universe knows us by name. He fearfully and marvelously made us (see Psalm 139:14), forming each of us with as much artistry and beauty as the most breathtaking wonders of the world. To Him be all praise!
