The root word of yêtser is yâtsar and has the primary meaning of “to form, fashion, frame, make, especially as a potter.” Before you can form or frame something, it has to be imagined. The first use of yâtsar in the Bible is Yahweh forming man from the dust of the ground (Gen. 2:7).
