A Firm Foundation
“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 3:11
My wife and I waxed our blue Volkswagen Beetle before our honeymoon so it would be bright and shiny for the special occasion. What a good idea! Then we placed a car-top carrier on the roof to hold our luggage. Another good idea! But two good ideas don’t always make a great idea. While traveling, we discovered the carrier gradually sliding down the sloped roof, over the back window, and on its way to slipping off completely!
We bought clothesline and anchored the carrier by tying it to the front and back bumpers. We drew a lot of funny glances along the way, but the carrier was now securely tied to a firm foundation. And each day we checked the knots to keep it that way.
A clear memory like this can give a little glimpse into the Lord’s workings in our lives. To stay securely grounded, we must be attached to a sure foundation. And Paul made it very clear that this foundation—already laid for us—is nothing other than Jesus Christ. All our decisions, actions, words, and attitudes must flow from Jesus. Fully anchor yourself to Jesus today.
