When You Lose Your Tube
“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.” John 10:28
Our family loved river tubing. It was fun to stretch out on the tube and just float along. On one such adventure, our youngest son was on my lap, and we were having a ball. That is, until the current quickly carried us towards a fallen tree hanging over the river. I stuck out my feet to push off as we collided. We didn’t crash entirely, but we bounced off our tube and took a quick plunge into the river’s depths! Holding my son tightly, I felt us go under and then pop back up. As we came up out of the water, I looked at him; his wide-open eyes were locked on mine! So I laughed. And then he laughed, too. We instantly decided it was fun.
I couldn’t help but see a parallel to life in the incident. Things go well as we float along with the current until we run smack into an obstacle. We lose our tube and feel like we’re drowning. But we can look up and lock onto the eyes of Jesus who holds us and never lets us go. His words in John 10 assure us that no one can snatch us out of His hand.
The next time you lose your tube, remember where to look!
