An Eye Problem
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 3:20-21
I shared with a fellow pastor that ministry was going well in our new congregation. But I was worried; with attitudes running high and enthusiasm great, I fretted that there was nowhere to go but down. He quoted Ephesians 3:20. Choking up, I told him this was the passage I used in my first sermon at this church. How soon I had forgotten my own words! He raised my “eye level” to realize, “When I can’t, I have an eye problem.”
If you think the mountain ahead is too high, the tasks too numerous, the goals too ambitious, the possibility of failure too great, or if you can no longer see the way, and the situation seems impossible, or if you’re convinced there’s nowhere to go but down, change your eye level and look up! Not only is God able, but it also is not unlike Him to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine according to His power at work in us.
We tend to look around at our worries and problems rather than looking up. God is in the middle of it all, orchestrating our imagined worries and our real hardships for our good and for His glory.
