Remember the Sting
“‘Where, O death, is your sting?’ The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:55-57
Twice while mowing the lawn, I’ve been stung by bees nesting in a hole hidden in the tall grass. I can assure you it’s no fun, but I certainly have learned from those stings.
First, I learned that once a bee has stung me, it will not hurt anyone else because it can sting only once. Think of that when you read Paul’s words: “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” (v. 55). Since death “stung” Jesus, it cannot sting us! There is now nothing in heaven or on earth or under the earth that can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord (see Romans 8:39).
A second lesson I’ve learned from the bee is that it gives its life to save other bees from potential harm. In fact, it gives its all to sting the enemy. Would I be willing to give my all to sting the enemy? Would I lay down my life, even die, to protect others from the pull and destruction of Satan? I would like to think that I would. But even in my weakness and inabilities, I need not fear. The victory has been accomplished for us all through Jesus Christ.
