A Hilly Reminder
“I lift up my eyes to the hills— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1
We enjoyed our trip to the western U.S., but I was uptight driving in the mountains and hills. Often I couldn’t see what was ahead until we reached the top of a hill or came around a curve. The views were breathtaking, but getting there was a nerve-wracking and scary adventure, especially with my fear of heights!
But God gave me a “hilly reminder” in Psalm 121. No matter how high the mountain, how steep the climb, how swift the descent, or how curvy the road, God guides, leads, and protects. What an awesome parallel for the ups and downs of life.
You may be at the bottom, wondering how to get back to the top. Or you may be at the very top, worried you can’t remain there. You could be in between, unsure if your next move will propel you upwards or thrust you downwards. Maybe you’re moving forward but can’t see around the bend and are anxious about what lies ahead. No matter what, “The LORD will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore” (vv. 7-8).
