Great Gain
“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.” 1 Timothy 6:6-7
We all know there is a great challenge in being wealthy because of the dangers that material possessions pose to our hearts. But who of us hasn’t thought about what it would be like to be rich? Even without an endless supply of money, the luxury of goods delivered to our door any day, any time lures us into thinking that material wealth is of utmost importance.
Be amazed, Christian, for you already are rich! It’s your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom (see Luke 12:33). Then why do we find ourselves still struggling to be content? Paul tells us that “godliness with contentment is great gain.” He resets our thinking about true riches when he reminds us that “we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of it.” In the end, all the earthly things we pile up for ourselves will be left behind for someone else.
Let the Holy Spirit prompt your heart to be content and know that your real treasure is found in Jesus. Then one day you’ll enter the next life in eternity holding onto nothing, yet possessing everything.
