Ardent Prayers
“For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all.” 1 Timothy 2:5-6
Have you at times grown weary in praying for the salvation of others? It’s easy to lose heart and then just give up praying for them altogether. Paul urges us to enlarge the scope of our prayers when he tells us that God “wants all men to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth” (v. 4).
Verses 5-7 put wind in the sails of our evangelistic prayers. Our prayer for someone’s salvation is not a mere wish. God does not play favorites. He will save whom He will save. And He does not want our prayers to be limited. But He does want us to pray specifically and confidently, knowing that He can and will save to the utmost all whom He is calling to Himself.
Since God is the one true God and has provided the one and only Savior, we know that our prayers can be lifted up with joy and trust. God has His plan of salvation completely in hand. Our calling is to cry out to the Lord, asking Him to rescue people from sin and bring them into the kingdom of His beloved Son. Keep praying, both for those you know and for those who are far off.
