Solid Biblical Teaching
“Some have wandered away … and turned to meaningless talk. They want to be teachers of the law, but do not know what they are talking about.” 1 Timothy 1:6-7
Sound biblical teaching has a practical result. It leads to love of God and love for our neighbor. In fact, that is one way you can know if your church is solid in its teaching: you’ll see yourself and others in the congregation growing in love.
To help Timothy understand what the point of their ministry was, Paul tells us that the aim is love that pours out from a pure heart and from sincere faith (see v. 5). As he encouraged this young minister in his gospel work, he warned him of false teachers, a warning that goes a long way and is surely one you and I must take to heart also. You’ve probably met up with those proclaiming unique and attractive philosophies, especially with ideas of how something you do can assure you of eternal life.
The teaching that is nourishing you must come from a heart and conscience cleansed by the blood of Christ. Be sure that the preaching you’re hearing is rooted in a faith that rests on Jesus alone for salvation. Watch how the result in your heart will be love for God and a sincere love for others.
