Mystery of Godliness
“The mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.” 1 Timothy 3:16
There is no shortage of writers, speakers, and social media influencers trying to sell us their secret to living the Christian life. Ads for immediate weight loss or foolproof financial investment are alluring, aren't they? In much the same way, we can’t help wanting to find out if there is some easy key to godliness. Stop searching! The only “key” to the Christian life you need is Jesus.
How is godliness achieved and what is so mysterious about it? The mystery is that it does not come from outside of us or by our good works. It comes from within where the Holy Spirit is changing us, as an outpouring of the magnificent work of Jesus on our behalf.
Notice the beautiful, poetic list of all Jesus’ life and ministry for us included. He was manifested, vindicated, seen, preached, believed on, and taken up. What came of it? You and I were redeemed and esteemed of great value to Him!
Look daily to Jesus to grow in godliness. In Him you’ll find the power of forgiveness. Seek Him in His Word as the mystery of His great love for you becomes unmistakable.
