13 And David counseled with the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and with all the governors.
2 And David said to all the Congregation of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and that it proceeds from the LORD our God, we will send to and fro to our brethren who are left in all the land of Israel (for with them are the priests and the Levites, in the cities and their suburbs), so that they may assemble themselves to us!
3 “And we will bring back the Ark of our God! For we did not seek it in the days of Saul!”
4 And all the Congregation answered, “Let us do so!” For the thing seemed good in the eyes of all the people.
5 So David gathered all Israel together, from Shihor in Egypt to the entrance of Hamath, to bring the Ark of God from Kirjath Jearim.
6 And David and all Israel went up to Baalah in Kirjath Jearim (which was in Judah), to bring up the Ark of God the LORD from there, which dwells between the Cherubim, where his Name is called on.
7 And they carried the Ark of God in a new cart, out of the house of Abinadab. And Uzza and Ahio guided the cart.
8 And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, both with songs and with harps and with viols and with timbrels and with cymbals, and with trumpets.
9 And when they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the Ark (for the oxen shook it).
10 But the wrath of the LORD was kindled against Uzza and He struck him, because he laid his hand upon the Ark. So, he died there before God.
11 And David was angry because of the LORD’s outburst against Uzza. And he called the name of that place “Perez Uzza” to this day.
12 And David feared God that day, saying, “How shall I bring in the Ark of God to myself?”
13 Therefore, David did not bring the Ark to him into the City of David, but caused it to turn into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.
14 So the Ark of God remained in the house of Obed-Edom, in his house for three months. And the LORD blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that he had.
14 Then Hiram, the king of Tyre, sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, with masons and carpenters to build himself a house.
2 Therefore, David knew that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, and that his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of His people Israel.
3 Also, David took more wives at Jerusalem. And David begat more sons and daughters.
4 And these are the names of the children whom he had at Jerusalem: Shammua and Shobab, Nathan and Solomon
5 and Ibhar and Elishua and Elpelet
6 and Nogah and Nepheg and Japhia
7 and Elishama and Beeliada and Eliphelet.
8 But when the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David. And when David heard, he went out against them.
9 And the Philistines came and spread themselves out in the Valley of Rephaim.
10 Then David asked counsel at God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will you deliver them into my hand?” And the LORD said to him, “Go up. For I will deliver them into your hand.”
11 So they came up to Baal Perazim; and David struck them there. And David said, “God has divided my enemies with my hand, as waters are divided.” Therefore, they called the name of that place Baal Perazim.
12 And they had left their gods there. And David said, “Let them be burnt with fire.”
13 Again, the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley.
14 And when David again asked counsel at God, God said to him, “You shall not go up after them. But turn away from them, so that you may come upon them opposite the mulberry trees.
15 “And when you hear the noise of one going in the tops of the mulberry trees, then go out to battle. For God has gone forth before you, to strike the army of the Philistines.”
16 So David did as God had Commanded him. And they struck the army of the Philistines, from Gibeon to Gezer.
17 And the fame of David went out into all lands. And the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad: Greetings.
2 My brothers, count it all joy when you fall into diverse trials,
3 knowing that the trying of your faith brings forth patience.
4 And let patience have her perfect work, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, Who gives liberally to all and reproaches no one. And it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, and do not waver. For the one who wavers is like a wave of the sea, tossed by the wind and carried away.
7 Do not let that man think he shall receive anything from the Lord.
8 A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.
9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice, in that he is exalted;
10 likewise the one who is rich, in that he is made low. For as the flower of the grass, he shall vanish away.
11 For when the Sun rises with heat, the grass withers, its flower falls away and its good shape perishes. So, also, shall the rich man wither away in all his ways.
12 Blessed is the man who endures trials. For when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God.” For God cannot be tempted with evil, nor does He tempt anyone.
14 But everyone is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and is enticed.
15 Then, when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin. And sin, when it is completed, brings forth death.
16 Make no mistake, my dear brothers.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with Whom there is no change or turning shadow.
18 Of His own will He begat us with the Word of Truth, so that we would be as the firstfruits of His creatures.
19 Therefore my dear brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.
20 For the wrath of man does not accomplish the righteousness of God.
21 Therefore, put aside all filthiness and abundance of wickedness. In humility, receive the Word implanted in you which is able to save your souls.
22 And be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
23 For if any hear the Word, and does not do it, he is like a man who beholds his natural face in a mirror.
24 For after he has looked at himself, he goes his way and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
25 But whoever looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues therein (not being a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work), he shall be blessed in his deed.
26 If anyone among you seems religious but does not refrain his tongue and deceives his own heart, their religion is vain.
27 Religion, pure and undefiled before God (even the Father) is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their adversity, and to keep oneself undefiled by the world.
8 Thus has the LORD God shown to me: Behold, a basket of summer fruit.
2 And He said, “Amos, what do you see?” And I said, “A basket of summer fruit.” Then said the LORD to me, “The end has come upon my people of Israel. I will pass by them no more.
3 “And the songs of the Temple shall be howlings on that day,” said the LORD God. “Many dead bodies shall be in every place. They shall cast them forth with silence.”
4 “Hear this, O you who swallow up the poor and may make the needy of the land fail,
5 saying, ‘When will the new month be gone, that we may sell corn; and the Sabbath, that we may set forth wheat and make the ephah small and the shekel great and falsify the weights by deceit?
6 ‘That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat.’”
7 The LORD has sworn by the excellency of Jacob, “Surely, I will never forget any of their works.
8 “Shall not the land tremble for this; and everyone mourn who dwells therein? And it shall rise up, wholly as a flood, and it shall be cast out and drowned as by the flood of Egypt.
9 “And on that day,” says the LORD God, “I will even cause the Sun to go down at noon. I will darken the Earth in the clear day.
10 “And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation. And I will bring sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head. And I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.
11 “Behold, the days come,” says the LORD God, “that I will send a famine in the land; not a famine of bread nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the Word of the LORD.
12 “And they shall wander from sea to sea. And from the north even to the east shall they run to and fro, to seek the Word of the LORD, and shall not find it.
13 “On that day shall the fair virgins and the young men perish for thirst.
14 “Those who swear by the sin of Samaria, and who say, ‘Your God, O Dan, lives!” and, “The manner of Beersheba lives!” even they shall fall and never rise up again.
3 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar - Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being Tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip Tetrarch of Iturea, and of the country of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the Tetrarch of Abilene
2 (when Annas and Caiaphas were the High Priests) - the Word of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness.
3 And he came into all the regions around Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins,
4 as it is written in the Book of the sayings of Isaiah the Prophet, which says, “The voice of him who cries in the wilderness is, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord! Make His paths straight!
5 ‘Every valley shall be filled. And every mountain and hill shall be brought low. And crooked things shall be made straight, and the rough ways smooth.
6 ‘And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’”
7 Then he said to the people who had come out to be baptized by him, “O generations of vipers! Who has forewarned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 “Therefore, bring forth fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say among yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our Father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children of Abraham from these stones!
9 “Now also is the axe laid to the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree which does not bring forth good fruit shall be cut down and cast into the fire!”
10 Then the people asked him, saying, “What shall we do then?”
11 And he answered, and said to them, “The one having two coats, let him give to the one who has none. And the one who has food, let him do likewise.”
12 Then there came tax collectors to be baptized also, and said to him, “Master, what shall we do?”
13 And he said to them, “Require no more than that which is appointed to you.”
14 The soldiers likewise asked him, saying, “And what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Extort no one, nor accuse anyone falsely. And be content with your wages.”
15 As the people waited expectantly, and everyone wondered in their hearts whether John was the Christ,
16 John answered, and said to them all, “Indeed, I baptize you with water! But One stronger than me comes, Whose sandals I am not worthy to unloose! He will baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire!
17 “His fan is in His hand, and He will make clean his floor, and will gather the wheat into His barn. But the chaff He will burn up with fire that never shall be quenched!”
18 Then, exhorting with many other things, he preached to the people.
19 But when Herod the Tetrarch was rebuked by him (for Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done),
20 he added this above all: that he shut up John in prison.
21 Now it happened that as all the people were baptized, and as Jesus was baptized and prayed, the heaven was opened.
22 And the Holy Ghost came down in a bodily shape like a dove upon Him. And there was a voice from Heaven, saying, “You are My beloved Son. In You I am well pleased.”
23 And Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age - being, as men supposed, the Son of Joseph, who was the son of Heli,
24 the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Janna, the son of Joseph,
