22 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign. And he reigned for thirty-one years in Jerusalem. Also, his mother’s name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.
2 And he did uprightly in the sight of the LORD and walked in all the ways of David, his father, and bowed neither to the right hand nor to the left.
3 And in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the chancellor, to the House of the LORD, saying,
4 “Go up to Hilkiah, the High Priest, so that he may count all the silver which has been brought into the House of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered from the people.
5 “And let them deliver it into the hands of those who do the work and have the oversight of the House of the LORD. Let them give it to those who work in the House of the LORD, to repair the decayed places of the House:
6 “to the builders and carpenters and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone, to repair the House.
7 However, let no accounting be made with them of the money that is delivered into their hand; for they deal faithfully.”
8 And Hilkiah the High Priest said to Shaphan the chancellor, “I have found the Book of the Law in the House of the LORD.” And Hilkiah gave the Book to Shaphan. And he read it.
9 So Shaphan the chancellor came to the king, and brought him word back, and said, “Your servants have gathered the money that was found in the House and have delivered it into the hands of those who do the work and have the oversight of the House of the LORD.”
10 Also, Shaphan the chancellor told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the Priest has delivered a Book to me.” And Shaphan read it before the king.
11 And when the king had heard the Words of the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes.
12 Therefore, the king commanded Hilkiah the Priest, and Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, and Achbor, the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the chancellor, and Asahiah, the king’s servant, saying,
13 “Go and inquire of the LORD for me and for the people and for all Judah concerning the Words of this Book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us because our fathers have not obeyed the Words of this Book, to do according to all that which is written in it for us.”
14 So Hilkiah the Priest and Ahikam and Achbor and Shaphan and Asahiah went to Huldah the Prophetess, the wife of Shallum, the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she dwelt in Jerusalem, in the college). And they communed with her.
15 And she answered them, “Thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,
16 “Thus says the LORD: ‘Behold, I will bring misery upon this place, and on its inhabitants—all the Words of the Book which the king of Judah has read—
17 ‘because they have forsaken Me and have burnt incense to other gods, to anger Me with all the works of their hands. Also, My wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.’”’
18 “But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, so shall you say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD God of Israel: “Concerning the Words that you have heard:
19 “because your heart melted, and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this place, and against the inhabitants of the same—that it would be destroyed and accursed—and have torn your clothes and wept before Me, I have also heard that,” says the LORD,
20 “Behold, therefore, I will gather you to your fathers. And you shall be put in your grave in peace. And your eyes shall not see all the misery which I will bring upon this place.”’” Thus, they brought word back to the king.
4 Therefore, let us fear, lest at any time any of you should seem to have come short of the promise of entering into His rest.
2 For the Gospel was preached to us as well as them. But the word that they heard did not profit them, because it was not mixed with faith in those who heard it.
3 For we who have believed have entered into rest, as He said, “As I have sworn in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter into My rest,’” However, the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For He spoke in a certain place of the seventh day in this way, “And God rested the seventh day from all His works.”
5 And in this place again, “If they shall enter into My rest.”
6 Therefore, seeing it remains that some must enter into it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter therein for unbelief’s sake,
7 again (after so long a time) He appointed through David a certain day - “Today” - by saying, “This day, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.”
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, then would He not later have spoken of another day?
9 There remains, therefore, a rest to the people of God.
10 For the one who has entered into His rest has also ceased from his own works (as God did from His).
11 Therefore, let us study to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience.
12 For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, passing through even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and able to discern the thoughts and the intentions of the heart.
13 Nor is there any creature unseen by Him. But all things are naked and laid bare before the eyes of Him to Whom we must give account.
14 Seeing, then, that we have a great High Priest Who has entered into Heaven (Jesus, the Son of God), let us hold firmly to our confession.
15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all things tempted in the same way, yet without sin.
16 Therefore, let us go boldly to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
1 The Word of the LORD that came to Joel, the son of Pethuel:
2 Hear this, O elders! And listen, all you inhabitants of the land! Has there been such a thing in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
3 Tell your children about it. And let your children tell it to their children, and their children to another generation.
4 That which was left by the gnawing locust the swarming locust has eaten. And the leftovers of the swarming locust the creeping locust has eaten. And the leftovers of the creeping locust the consuming locust has eaten.
5 Awake you drunkards! And weep and howl all you drinkers of wine because of the new wine. For it shall be pulled from your mouth.
6 “Yea, a nation comes upon My land, mighty and without number, whose teeth are like the teeth of a lion. And he has the jaws of a great lion.
7 “He has laid waste My vine and splinters the bark of My fig tree. He makes it bare and casts it down. Its branches are made white.”
8 Mourn like a virgin, girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
9 The Meat Offering and the Drink Offering are cut off from the House of the LORD. The priests, the LORD’s ministers, mourn.
10 The field is wasted. The land mourns. For the grain is destroyed. The new wine has dried up, and the oil has decayed.
11 Be ashamed, O farmers! Howl, O you vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley, because the harvest of the field has perished!
12 The vine has dried up. And the fig tree has decayed. The pomegranate tree and the palm tree and the apple tree, all the trees of the field, are withered. Surely, the joy has withered away from the sons of men.”
13 Gird yourselves and lament, you priests. Howl, you ministers of the Altar! Come! Lie all night in sackcloth, you ministers of my God. For the Meat Offering and the Drink Offering are taken away from the House of your God.
14 Sanctify yourself a fast. Call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders, all the inhabitants of the land, into the House of the LORD your God, and cry to the LORD,
15 “Alas!” For the day, for the day of the LORD is at hand! And it comes as a destruction from the Almighty.
16 Is not the meat cut off before our eyes — joy and gladness from the House of our God?
17 The seed is rotten under their clods. The storehouses are destroyed. The barns are broken down, for the grain has withered.
18 How the beasts mourn! The herds of cattle pine away, because they have no pasture. And the flocks of sheep are destroyed.
19 O LORD! To You will I cry! For the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness. And the flame has burnt up all the trees of the field.
20 The beasts of the field also cry to You; for the river of waters have dried up. And the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
140 Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man. Preserve me from the cruel man.
2 Who imagine evil things in their heart and make war continually.
3 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Adders’ poison is under their lips. Selah.
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked. Preserve me from the cruel man, who intends to cause my steps to slide.
5 The proud have laid a snare for me, and spread a net with cords in my pathway, and set traps for me. Selah.
6 I said to the LORD, “You are my God. Hear, O LORD, the voice of my prayers.
7 “O LORD God, the strength of my salvation, You have covered my head on the day of battle.
8 “Do not let the wicked have his desire, O LORD. Do not perform his wicked thought, lest they be proud. Selah.
9 “The chief of those who surround me, let the mischief of their own lips come upon them.
10 “Let coals fall upon them. Let him cast them into the fire, into the deep pits, so that they do not rise.
11 “The backbiter shall not be established upon the Earth. Evil shall hunt the cruel man to destruction.”
12 I know that the LORD will avenge the afflicted and judge the poor.
13 Surely, the righteous shall praise Your Name; and the just shall dwell in Your presence. A Psalm of David
141 O LORD, I call upon You! Hurry to me! Hear my voice when I cry to You!
2 Let my prayer be directed in Your sight as incense, the lifting up of my hands as an evening sacrifice.
3 Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.
4 Do not incline my heart to evil, so that I would commit wicked works with those who work iniquity; and do not let me eat of their delicacies.
5 Let the righteous strike me; for that is a benefit. And let him reprove me; it shall be as a precious oil that shall not break my head. For after a while, I shall even pray in their miseries.
6 When their judges are cast down in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.
7 Our bones lie scattered at the grave’s mouth, as he who hews or digs in the earth.
8 But my eyes look to You, O LORD God. In You is my trust. Do not leave my soul destitute.
9 Keep me from the snare which they have laid for me, and from the traps of the workers of iniquity.
10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I escape. A Psalm of David, to give instruction; and a prayer when he was in the cave
