2 Kings 16

16 The seventeenth year of Pekah, the son of Remaliah, Ahaz, the son of Jotham, king of Judah, began to reign.

Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign. And he reigned for sixteen years in Jerusalem. And he did not do uprightly in the sight of the LORD his God (like David his father),

but walked in the way of the kings of Israel, yea, and made his son go through the fire, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.

Also, he offered and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

Then Rezin, king of Aram, and Pekah, son of Remaliah, king of Israel, came up to Jerusalem to fight. And they besieged Ahaz but could not overcome him.

At the same time, Rezin, king of Aram, restored Elath to Aram and drove the Jews from Elath. So, the Aramites came to Elath and dwell there to this day.

Then Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-Pileser, king of Assyria, saying, “I am your servant and your son. Come up and deliver me out of the hand of the king of Aram and out of the hand of the king of Israel, who rise up against me.”

And Ahaz took the silver and the gold that was found in the House of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house, and sent a present to the king of Assyria.

And the king of Assyria listened to him. And the king of Assyria went up against Damascus. And when he had taken it, he carried the people away to Kir and killed Rezin.

10 And King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-Pileser, king of Assyria. And when King Ahaz saw the altar that was at Damascus, he sent to Urijah the Priest the pattern of the altar, and the fashion of it, and all its workmanship.

11 And Urijah the Priest made an altar, in all points like that which King Ahaz had sent from Damascus. So did Urijah the Priest while King Ahaz came from Damascus.

12 So when the king had come from Damascus, the king saw the altar. And the king drew near to the altar and offered on it.

13 And he burnt his burnt offering and his meat offering and poured his drink offering and sprinkled the blood of his peace offerings beside the altar,

14 and set it by the bronze altar, which was before the LORD, and brought it in further from the front of the House, between the altar and the House of the LORD, and set it on the northern side of the altar.

15 And King Ahaz commanded Urijah the Priest, and said, “In the morning, set the burnt offering on fire upon the great altar, and in the evening the meat offering, and the king’s burnt offering and his meat offering with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, and their meat offering, and their drink offerings. And pour all the blood of the burnt offering by them, and all the blood of the sacrifice. And the bronze altar shall be for me to inquire.”

16 And Urijah the Priest did according to all that King Ahaz had commanded.

17 And King Ahaz broke the borders of the bases, and took the caldrons from off them, and took down the sea from the bronze oxen that were under it and put it upon a pavement of stones.

18 And the veil for the Sabbath (that they had made in the House) and he turned the king’s outside entrance into the house of the LORD, because of the king of Assyria.

19 Concerning the rest of the acts of Ahaz, which he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

20 And Ahaz slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the City of David. And Hezekiah, his son, reigned in his place.

Titus 2

But you, speak things befitting to sound doctrine -

so that the older men are sober, honorable, temperate, sound in the faith, in love, and in patience;

the elder women likewise - so that they are in such behavior as becomes holiness (not false accusers, not subject to much wine, teachers of virtue);

so that they may instruct the young women to be sober-minded, to love their husbands, love their children,

to be temperate, chaste, homemakers, good, subject to their own husbands (so that the Word of God is not blasphemed).

Exhort young men likewise, so that they are sober-minded.

In all things, show yourself to be an example of good works - with uncorrupted doctrine, gravity, integrity,

and sound speech that cannot be condemned - so that whoever opposes you may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.

Let servants be subject to their masters, and please them in all things—not questioning

10 or pilfering, but showing all good faithfulness—so that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.

11 For the grace of God which brings salvation to all mankind has appeared,

12 and teaches us that we should deny ungodliness and worldly lusts; and that we should live soberly and righteously and godly in this present world,

13 looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the Glory of the mighty God, and of our Savior, Jesus Christ;

14 Who gave Himself for us so that He might redeem us from all iniquity and cleanse us to be a peculiar people for Himself, zealous for good works.

15 Speak these things. And encourage and convict with all authority. See that no one despises you.

Hosea 9

Do not rejoice for joy, O Israel, as other people. For you have gone a whoring from your God. You have loved a reward upon every grain floor.

The floor and the winepress shall not feed them. And the new wine shall fail in her.

They will not dwell in the LORD’s land. But Ephraim will return to Egypt. And they will eat unclean things in Assyria.

They shall not offer wine to the LORD. Nor shall their sacrifices be pleasant to Him. But they shall be as the bread of mourners. All who eat of it shall be polluted. For their bread for their souls shall not come into the House of the LORD.

What will you do, then, on the solemn day, and on the day of the Feast of the LORD?

For lo, they have gone from destruction. Egypt shall gather them up and Memphis shall bury them. Nettles shall possess the pleasant places of their silver. Thorns shall be in their tabernacles.

The days of visitation have come. The days of recompense have come. Israel shall know it. The Prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, because of the multitude of your iniquity. Therefore the hatred is great.

The watchman of Ephraim is with my God. The Prophet is the snare of a bird catcher in all his ways, and hatred is in the House of his God.

They are deeply set. They are corrupt, as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their iniquity. He will visit their sins.

10 “I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness. I saw your fathers as the firstfruits of a fig tree in her first season. But they went to Baal Peor and separated themselves to that shame. And abominations were according to their lovers.

11 “Ephraim, their glory, shall flee away like a bird, from the birth and from the womb and from the conception.

12 “Though they bring up their children, I will deprive them of being men. Yea, woe to them when I depart from them!

13 “Ephraim, as I saw, is as a tree in Tyre, planted in a cottage. But Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer.”

14 O LORD, give them—what will You give them? Give them a barren womb and dry breasts.

15 “All their wickedness is in Gilgal. For there I hated them for the wickedness of their inventions. I will cast them out of My House. I will love them no longer. All their princes are rebels.

16 “Ephraim is stricken! Their root is dried up! They can bring no fruit! Yea, though they bring forth, I will kill even the dearest of their body.”

17 My God will cast them away because they did not obey Him. And they shall wander among the nations.

Psalm 126-128

126 When the LORD brought back the captives of Zion, we were like those who dream.

Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with joy. Then they said among the heathen, “The LORD has done great things for them.”

The LORD has done great things for us! We rejoice!

O LORD, bring back our captives as the rivers in the south.

Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy.

They went weeping and carried precious seed. They shall return with joy and bring their sheaves. A song of degrees, or Psalm, of Solomon

127 Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the LORD keeps the city, the keeper watches in vain.

It is in vain for you to rise early, to lie down late, and eat the bread of sorrow; but He will surely give rest to His beloved.

Behold, children are the inheritance of the LORD, the fruit of the womb His reward.

As the arrows in the hand of the strong man are the children of youth.

Blessed is the man who has his quiver full of them. They shall not be ashamed when they speak with enemies in the gate. A song of degrees

128 Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD and walks in His ways.

When you eat the labors of your hands, you shall be blessed; and it shall be well with you.

Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine on the sides of your house, your children like olive plants around your table.

Lo, surely thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.

The LORD out of Zion shall bless you; and you shall see the wealth of Jerusalem all the days of your life.

Indeed, you shall see your children’s children. Peace upon Israel. A song of degrees
