Hope, Our Anchor
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Hebrews 6:19
Every part of the boat is valuable. The anchor, though small, is of huge importance. It holds the boat to a fixed point so that it can’t drift off onto the shore or up on the rocks. One of our fears when we are in a bay while it’s rough and windy is that we will drag anchor. We’ve seen boats which have not properly set their anchor do exactly that and then bump into others.
Let’s think about our anchor for the soul. To properly set our anchor and be secure in Christ, we must take hold of our only hope: Jesus. “We who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged” (v. 18). But how do we do that?
When we wait for an answer from God for a long time, hope wanes. Romans 15:4 reminds us, “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” By remembering God’s faithfulness in the past, we combat the lie that maybe He will not come through for us this time. God is faithful. Safely anchor your hope in Him!
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope.” (Romans 15:13)
