The Greatness of Our God
“The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.” Psalm 95:5
Some people look at the stars and are amazed. Some are awed at the mountains. For me, it is the vast, mysterious, and often unpredictable ocean. Sailing has deepened my walk with the Lord the way star-gazing or mountain climbing has for others. Though I’m just as vulnerable on land, out there I know I am completely helpless. Is there a place where you go or have been which profoundly reminds you how great God is and how small you are? In that place, I am thankful that I know my great God to whom the sea belongs.
We may not always understand why He allows hurricane-force storms in our lives. But in His Word, He has made it perfectly clear that He loves us and gave His all for us in His Son, Jesus Christ.
Would I really want to be able to fully understand an infinite God? I love the discovery of Him! He wouldn’t be God if we could master Him. “No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began” (1 Corinthians 2:7). Seeking this great God of ours is an adventure.
“God of the seas, thy thundering voice, /Makes all the roaring waves rejoice, /And one soft word of thy command,/ Can sink them silent in thesand.” (Isaac Watts, 1824)
