Storms
“Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea—the LORD on high is mighty.” Psalm 93:4
My husband and I have taken several sailing trips in a small but solid offshore sailboat. On our biggest journey, we mapped out a diagonal course from North Carolina to the British Virgin Islands with 10 days in open ocean. By night three, we hit a strong gale with winds up to 50 knots and waves 10-15 feet high. Nowhere near land, we couldn’t tuck in for safety. Nor would we have been able to, because our engine stopped working earlier that day. We had to put down our sails and go below to wait it out. For 12 hours it was like being tossed around on a carnival ride. Once the storm died, we calmed our nerves, hoisted the sails, and set out again.
I have seen the seas literally “lift up their voice, their pounding waves.” Have you faced life’s storms that you thought would overtake you? I find great comfort in Psalm 93 because it tells me with certainty The. LORD. On. High. Is. Mighty!
May you also be comforted when the storms of life amass around you, and you lose control. Our mighty God is still at the helm. No tempest is too great for Him.
God can calm the raging storm in me as well as the wild waves out on the sea.
