Acts 10:44-48

The Gentiles Receive the Holy Spirit

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on[a] all those who heard the message.[b] 45 The[c] circumcised believers[d] who had accompanied Peter were greatly astonished[e] that[f] the gift of the Holy Spirit[g] had been poured out[h] even on the Gentiles, 46 for they heard them speaking in tongues and praising[i] God. Then Peter said, 47 “No one can withhold the water for these people to be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did,[j] can he?”[k] 48 So he gave orders to have them baptized[l] in the name of Jesus Christ.[m] Then they asked him to stay for several days.

Psalm 98

Psalm 98[a]

A psalm.

98 Sing to the Lord a new song,[b]
for he performs[c] amazing deeds.
His right hand and his mighty arm
accomplish deliverance.[d]
The Lord demonstrates his power to deliver;[e]
in the sight of the nations he reveals his justice.
He remains loyal and faithful to the family of Israel.[f]
All the ends of the earth see our God deliver us.[g]
Shout out praises to the Lord, all the earth.
Break out in a joyful shout and sing!
Sing to the Lord accompanied by a harp,
accompanied by a harp and the sound of music.
With trumpets and the blaring of the ram’s horn,
shout out praises before the king, the Lord.
Let the sea and everything in it shout,
along with the world and those who live in it.
Let the rivers clap their hands!
Let the mountains sing in unison
before the Lord.
For he comes to judge the earth.
He judges the world fairly,[h]
and the nations in a just manner.

1 John 5:1-6

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ[a] has been fathered[b] by God, and everyone who loves the father[c] loves the child fathered by him.[d] By this[e] we know that we love the children of God: whenever we love God and obey his commandments. For[f] this is the love of God:[g] that we keep his commandments.[h] And his commandments do not weigh us down, because[i] everyone[j] who has been fathered by God[k] conquers[l] the world.[m]

Testimony About the Son

This[n] is the conquering power[o] that has conquered[p] the world: our faith. Now who is the person who has conquered the world except the one who believes that[q] Jesus is the Son of God? Jesus Christ is the one who came by water and blood—not by the water only, but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because[r] the Spirit is the truth.

John 15:9-17

“Just as the Father has loved me, I have also loved you; remain[a] in my love. 10 If you obey[b] my commandments, you will remain[c] in my love, just as I have obeyed[d] my Father’s commandments and remain[e] in his love. 11 I have told you these things[f] so that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be complete. 12 My commandment is this—to love one another just as I have loved you.[g] 13 No one has greater love than this—that one lays down his life[h] for his friends. 14 You are my friends[i] if you do what I command you. 15 I no longer call you slaves,[j] because the slave does not understand[k] what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because I have revealed to you everything[l] I heard[m] from my Father. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you[n] and appointed you to go and bear[o] fruit, fruit that remains,[p] so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you. 17 This[q] I command you—to love one another.
