Psalm 115

Psalm 115[a]

115 Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
but to your name bring honor,[b]
for the sake of your loyal love and faithfulness.[c]
Why should the nations say,
“Where is their God?”
Our God is in heaven.
He does whatever he pleases.[d]
Their[e] idols are made of silver and gold—
they are man-made.[f]
They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but cannot see,
ears, but cannot hear,
noses, but cannot smell,
hands, but cannot touch,
feet, but cannot walk.
They cannot even clear their throats.[g]
Those who make them will end up[h] like them,
as will everyone who trusts in them.
O Israel, trust in the Lord.
He is their deliverer[i] and protector.[j]
10 O family[k] of Aaron, trust in the Lord.
He is their deliverer[l] and protector.[m]
11 You loyal followers of the Lord,[n] trust in the Lord.
He is their deliverer[o] and protector.[p]
12 The Lord takes notice of us;[q] he will bless[r]
he will bless the family[s] of Israel,
he will bless the family of Aaron.
13 He will bless his loyal followers,[t]
both young and old.[u]
14 May he increase your numbers,
yours and your children’s.[v]
15 May you be blessed by the Lord,
the Creator[w] of heaven and earth.
16 The heavens belong to the Lord,[x]
but the earth he has given to mankind.[y]
17 The dead do not praise the Lord,
nor do any of those who descend into the silence of death.[z]
18 But we will praise the Lord
now and forevermore.
Praise the Lord!

Exodus 28:29-38

29 Aaron will bear the names of the sons of Israel in the breastpiece of decision over his heart[a] when he goes into the Holy Place, for a memorial before the Lord continually.

30 “You are to put the Urim and the Thummim[b] into the breastpiece of decision; and they are to be over Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the Lord. Aaron is to bear the decisions[c] of the Israelites over his heart before the Lord continually.

31 “You are to make the robe[d] of the ephod completely blue. 32 There is to be an opening[e] in its top[f] in the center of it, with an edge all around the opening, the work of a weaver,[g] like the opening of a collar,[h] so that it cannot be torn.[i] 33 You are to make pomegranates[j] of blue, purple, and scarlet all around its hem[k] and bells of gold between them all around. 34 The pattern is to be[l] a gold bell and a pomegranate, a gold bell and a pomegranate, all around the hem of the robe. 35 The robe[m] is to be on Aaron as he ministers,[n] and his sound will be heard[o] when he enters the Holy Place before the Lord and when he leaves, so that he does not die.

36 “You are to make a plate[p] of pure gold and engrave on it the way a seal is engraved:[q] ‘Holiness to the Lord.’[r] 37 You are to attach to it a blue cord so that it will be[s] on the turban; it is to be[t] on the front of the turban. 38 It will be on Aaron’s forehead, and Aaron will bear the iniquity of the holy things,[u] which the Israelites are to sanctify by all their holy gifts;[v] it will always be on his forehead, for their acceptance[w] before the Lord.

Philippians 1:3-11

Prayer for the Church

I thank my God every time I remember you.[a] I always pray with joy in my every prayer for all of you because of your participation[b] in the gospel from the first day until now.[c] For I am sure of this very thing,[d] that the one[e] who began a good work in[f] you will perfect it[g] until the day of Christ Jesus. For[h] it is right for me to think this about all of you, because I have you in my heart,[i] since both in my imprisonment[j] and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel all of you became partners in God’s grace[k] together with me. For God is my witness that I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus. And I pray this, that your love may abound even more and more in knowledge and every kind of insight 10 so that you can decide what is best, and thus be sincere and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.
