Version
Psalm 29

Psalm 29[a]

A psalm of David.

29 Acknowledge the Lord, you heavenly beings,[b]
acknowledge the Lord’s majesty and power.[c]
Acknowledge the majesty of the Lord’s reputation.[d]
Worship the Lord in holy attire.[e]
The Lord’s shout is heard over the water;[f]
the majestic God thunders,[g]
the Lord appears over the surging water.[h]
The Lord’s shout is powerful,[i]
the Lord’s shout is majestic.[j]
The Lord’s shout breaks[k] the cedars,
the Lord shatters[l] the cedars of Lebanon.[m]
He makes them skip like a calf,
Lebanon and Sirion[n] like a young ox.[o]
The Lord’s shout strikes[p] with flaming fire.[q]
The Lord’s shout shakes[r] the wilderness,
the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.[s]
The Lord’s shout bends[t] the large trees[u]
and strips[v] the leaves from the forests.[w]
Everyone in his temple says, “Majestic!”[x]
10 The Lord sits enthroned over the engulfing waters,[y]
the Lord sits enthroned[z] as the eternal king.
11 The Lord gives[aa] his people strength;[ab]
the Lord grants his people security.[ac]

Isaiah 5:15-24

15 Men will be humiliated,
they will be brought low;
the proud will be brought low.[a]
16 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies will be exalted[b] when he punishes,[c]
the holy God’s authority will be recognized when he judges.[d]
17 Lambs[e] will graze as if in their pastures,
amid the ruins the rich sojourners will graze.[f]
18 Beware, those who pull evil along using cords of emptiness are as good as dead,[g]
who pull sin as with cart ropes.[h]
19 They say, “Let him hurry, let him act quickly,[i]
so we can see;
let the plan of the Holy One of Israel[j] take shape[k] and come to pass,
then we will know it!”
20 Beware, those who call evil good and good evil,[l]
who turn darkness into light and light into darkness,
who turn bitter into sweet and sweet into bitter.[m]
21 Beware, those who think they are wise,[n]
those who think they possess understanding.[o]
22 Beware, those who are champions[p] at drinking,
who display great courage when mixing strong drinks.
23 They pronounce the guilty innocent for a payoff,
they ignore the just cause of the innocent.[q]
24 Therefore, as flaming fire[r] devours straw,
and dry grass disintegrates in the flames,
so their root will rot,
and their flower will blow away like dust.[s]
For they have rejected the law of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies,
they have spurned the commands[t] of the Holy One of Israel.[u]

John 15:18-20

The World’s Hatred

18 “If the world hates you, be aware[a] that it hated me first.[b] 19 If you belonged to the world,[c] the world would love you as its own.[d] However, because you do not belong to the world,[e] but I chose you out of the world, for this reason[f] the world hates you.[g] 20 Remember what[h] I told you, ‘A slave[i] is not greater than his master.’[j] If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they obeyed[k] my word, they will obey[l] yours too.

John 15:26-27

26 When the Advocate[a] comes, whom I will send you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he[b] will testify about me, 27 and you also will testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.
