12 And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together and went northward, and said to Jephthah, “Why did you go fight against the children of Ammon and not call us to go with you? We will, therefore, burn your house upon you with fire!”
2 And Jephthah said to them, “I and my people were in a great struggle with the children of Ammon. And when I called you, you did not deliver me out of their hands.
3 “So, when I saw that you did not deliver me, I put my life in my own hands, and went upon the children of Ammon. So, the LORD delivered them into my hands. Why, then, have you come upon me now to fight against me?”
4 Then Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead and fought with Ephraim. And the men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said, “You Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites and among the Manassites.”
5 Also, the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites. And when an Ephraimite who had escaped said, “Let me pass,” then the men of Gilead said to him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he said, “No,”
6 then they said to him, “Say ‘Shibboleth’.” And if he said ‘Sibboleth’ (for he could not pronounce it) then they took him and killed him at the passages of Jordan. And forty-two thousand of the Ephraimites fell at that time.
7 And Jephthah judged Israel for six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.
8 After him, Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel,
9 who had thirty sons. He also had thirty daughters, whom he sent out. And he took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel for seven years.
10 Then Ibzan died and was buried at Bethlehem.
11 And after him, Elon, a Zebulunite, judged Israel. And he judged Israel for ten years.
12 Then Elon the Zebulunite died and was buried in Aijalon, in the country of Zebulun.
13 And after him, Abdon, the son of Hillel the Pirathonite, judged Israel.
14 And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, who rode on seventy donkeys. And he judged Israel for eight years.
15 Then Abdon, the son of Hillel the Pirathonite, died and was buried in Pirathon, in the land of Ephraim, on the Mount of the Amalekites.
16 Then he came to Derbe and Lystra. And behold, a certain disciple was there named Timothy - the son of a believing Jewish woman, but whose father was Greek
2 of whom the brothers at Lystra and Iconium reported well.
3 Paul wanted him to go forth with him. So, he took and circumcised him, because of the Jews who were in that area (for they all knew that his father was Greek).
4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered the decrees to keep, ordained by the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.
5 And so the churches were established in the faith and increased in number daily.
6 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia, and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Ghost to preach the Word in Asia.
7 Then they came to Mysia and sought to go into Bithynia. But the Spirit did not allow them.
8 Therefore they passed through Mysia, and came down to Troas,
9 where a vision appeared to Paul in the night: A Macedonian man stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come into Macedonia, and help us!”
10 And after he had seen the vision, we immediately prepared to go into Macedonia, being assured that the Lord had called us to preach the Gospel to them.
11 Then went we forth from Troas. And with a straight course, we came to Samothrace, and the next day to Neapolis;
12 and from there to Philippi (which is the chief city in the parts of Macedonia, and whose inhabitants came from Rome to dwell there). And we stayed in that city some days.
13 And on the Sabbath day, we went out of the city, to a riverside where they customarily prayed. And we sat down and spoke to the women who had come together.
14 And a certain woman named Lydia (a seller of purple, of the city of the Thyatirians), who worshipped God, heard us. The Lord opened her heart, so that she paid attention to the things which Paul spoke.
15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she implored us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay.” And she insisted.
16 And it happened that as we went to prayer, a certain maid having a spirit of divination (who made her masters much money with divining) met us.
17 She followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who show to you the way of salvation!”
18 And she did this for many days. But Paul, being annoyed, turned around and said to the spirit, “I command you in the Name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” And it came out the same hour.
19 Now when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace, to the Magistrates.
20 And they brought them to the governors, saying, “These Jewish men trouble our city,
21 “and preach ordinances which are not lawful for us to receive, nor to observe, seeing we are Romans!”
22 Then the people rose up together against them. And the governors tore their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods.
23 And when they had beaten them terribly, they cast them into prison, commanding the jailer to guard them securely
24 (who, having received such a commandment, cast them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks).
25 Now at midnight, Paul and Silas prayed, and sang Psalms to God. And the prisoners heard them.
26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundation of the prison was shaken. And immediately all the doors opened. And all the shackles were loosened.
27 Then the keeper of the prison awoke from his sleep. And when he saw the prison doors open, he drew out his sword and was about to kill himself (having assumed that the prisoners had escaped).
28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm! For we all are here!”
29 Then he called for a light and rushed in, trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas.
30 And he brought them out, and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you and your household shall be saved.”
32 And they preached the Word of the Lord to him, and to all who were in the house.
33 Afterward, that same hour of the night, he took them and washed their wounds. And he was baptized immediately, with all who belonged to him.
34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them, and rejoiced that he, with all his household, believed in God.
35 And when it was day, the governors sent the sergeants, saying, “Let those men go!”
36 Then the keeper of the prison told these words to Paul, saying, “The governors have sent word to free you. Therefore, leave now. And go in peace.”
37 Then Paul said to them, “After they have beaten us openly (uncondemned Romans) and have cast us into prison, now they wish to thrust us out secretly? Certainly not! But let them come and bring us out.”
38 And the sergeants told these words to the governors, who were afraid when they heard that they were Romans.
39 Then they came and pleaded with them; and brought them out and asked them to leave the city.
40 And they went out of the prison and entered into the house of Lydia. And when they had seen the brothers, they comforted them, and departed.
25 The Word that came to Jeremiah, concerning all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, which was in the first year of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babel.
2 which Jeremiah the Prophet spoke to all the people of Judah and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,
3 “From the thirteenth year of Josiah, the son of Amon, king of Judah, to this day (that is, the twenty-third year), the Word of the LORD has come to me. And I have spoken it to you, rising early and speaking. But you would not hear.
4 “And the LORD has sent to you all His servants, the Prophets, rising early and sending them. But you would not hear or incline your ears to obey.
5 “They said, ‘Everyone turn back now from his evil way, and from the wickedness of your inventions, and you shall dwell in the land that the LORD has given you, and to your fathers, forever and ever.
6 ‘And do not go after other gods, to serve them and to worship them. And do not provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands, and I will not punish you.
7 Nevertheless, you would not hear Me,’ says the LORD, ‘but have provoked Me to anger with the works of your hands, to your own hurt.’
8 “Therefore, thus says the LORD of Hosts: ‘Because you have not heard My Words,
9 ‘behold, I will send and take all the families of the North,’ says the LORD, ‘and Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babel, My servant, and will bring them against this land and against its inhabitants and against all these nations all around and will destroy them and make them an astonishment and a hissing and a continual desolation.
10 ‘Moreover, I will take from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the noise of the millstones, and the light of the candle.
11 ‘And this whole land shall be desolate, and an astonishment. These nations shall serve the king of Babel for seventy years.
12 ‘And when the seventy years are completed, I will reckon with the king of Babel and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquities,’ says the LORD, ‘and will make it a perpetual desolation.
13 ‘And I will bring upon that land all My Words which I have pronounced against it, all that is written in this Book which Jeremiah has prophesied against all nations.
14 ‘For many nations and great kings shall be served by them. Thus will I recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.’
15 For thus has the LORD God of Israel spoken to me: ‘Take this cup of wine of indignation from My Hand, and cause all the nations to whom I send you to drink it.
16 ‘And they shall drink and be moved and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.’”
17 Then I took the cup from the LORD’s Hand, and made all people drink to whom the LORD had sent me:
18 Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah and its kings and its princes, to make them desolate, an astonishment, a hissing and a curse, as it is this day,
19 Pharaoh, King of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people,
20 and all sorts of people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,
21 Edom, Moab, and the Ammonites,
22 and all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the Isles who are beyond the sea,
23 and Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all who dwell in the uttermost corners,
24 and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of Arabia who dwell in the desert,
25 and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of [u]Elam, and all the kings of the Medes.
26 And all the kings of the North, far from and near to one another, and all the kingdoms of the world which are upon the Earth, and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.
27 “Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel: “Drink and be drunken, and spew and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.”
28 ‘But if they refuse to take the cup from your hand, to drink, then tell them, “Thus says the LORD of Hosts: ‘You shall certainly drink.
29 ‘For lo, I begin to plague the city where My Name is called upon. And should you go free? You shall not go acquitted. For I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the Earth,’ says the LORD of Hosts.”
30 ‘Therefore, prophesy all these words against them, and say to them, “The LORD shall roar from above and thrust out His Voice from His holy habitation. He shall roar upon His habitation, and cry aloud, as those who press the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the Earth.
31 “The sounds shall come to the ends of the Earth. For the LORD has a controversy with the nations and will enter into judgment with all flesh. He will give to the sword those who are wicked,” says the LORD.’
32 “Thus says the LORD of Hosts: ‘Behold, a plague shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the Earth.
33 ‘And the slain of the LORD shall be on that day from one end of the Earth to the other end of the Earth. They shall be neither mourned nor gathered nor buried but shall be as the dung upon the ground.
34 ‘Howl, you shepherds, and cry! And wallow in the ashes, you leader of the flock! For your days of slaughter and dispersion are fulfilled, and you shall fall like precious vessels.
35 ‘And the shepherds shall have no refuge, and the leader of the flock no escape.
36 ‘A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and a howling of the leader of the flock, shall be heard. For the LORD has destroyed their pasture.
37 ‘And the best pastures are destroyed because of the wrath and indignation of the LORD.
38 He has forsaken His covert, as the lion. For their land is waste because of the wrath of the oppressor, and because of the wrath of His indignation.’”
11 And when they came near Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, to the mount of Olives, He sent forth two of His disciples,
2 and said to them, “Go into that town over there. And as soon as you enter it, you shall find a colt, tied, upon which never a man sat. Untie him and bring him.
3 “And if anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ Say that the Lord has need of him. And He will return him immediately.”
4 And they went their way and found a colt, tied by the door outside, at an intersection. And they untied him.
5 Then some of those who stood there said to them, “Why are you untying that colt?”
6 And they said to them as Jesus had commanded them. So, they let them go.
7 And they brought the colt to Jesus and laid their garments on him. And He sat upon him.
8 And many spread their garments along the way. Others cut down branches off the trees and spread them in the way.
9 And those who went before and who followed, cried, saying, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord!
10 “Blessed is the Kingdom that comes in the Name of the Lord of our father David! Hosanna! O You Who are in the highest heavens!”
11 So Jesus entered into Jerusalem and went into the Temple. And when He had looked around at everything (and it was evening) He went forth to Bethany with the twelve.
12 And the next day, on the way back from Bethany, He became hungry.
13 And seeing a fig tree at a distance which had leaves, He went to see if He might find anything on it. But when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves. For the time of figs was not yet.
14 Then Jesus answered, and said to it, “Never shall anyone eat fruit from you again while the world stands.” And His disciples heard it.
15 And they came to Jerusalem. And Jesus went into the Temple and began to cast out those who sold and bought in the Temple and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers and the seats of those who sold doves;
16 nor would He allow anyone to carry merchandise through the Temple.
17 And He taught, saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My House shall be called the House of Prayer, to all nations’!? But you have made it a den of thieves!”
18 And the Scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how to destroy Him. For they feared Him, because the whole multitude was astonished at His doctrine.
19 But when evening came, Jesus went out of the city.
20 And in the morning, as they journeyed together, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
21 Then Peter remembered and said to Him, “Master, behold, the fig tree which You cursed is withered.”
22 And Jesus answered, and said to them, “Have the faith of God.
23 “For truly I say to you, that whoever shall say to this mountain, ‘Be taken away and cast into the sea’, and shall not waver in his heart but shall believe that those things which he says shall happen, whatever he says shall be done to you.
24 “Therefore I say to you, whatever you desire when you pray, believe that you shall have it and it shall be done to you.
25 “But when you shall stand and pray, forgive (if you have anything against anyone) that your Father also, Who is in Heaven, may forgive you your trespasses.
26 “For if you will not forgive, your Father Who is in Heaven will not pardon you your trespasses.”
27 Then they came to Jerusalem again. And as He walked in the Temple, the chief priests came to Him, and the scribes and the elders,
28 and said to Him, “By what authority do You do these things? And who gave You this authority, that You should do these things?”
29 Then Jesus answered, and said to them, “I will also ask you a certain thing. Answer Me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
30 “The baptism of John, was it from Heaven, or from man? answer Me.”
31 And they thought amongst themselves, saying, “If we shall say, ‘From Heaven’, He will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’
32 “But if we say, ‘From man’, we fear the people.” For all men counted John as a Prophet, indeed.
33 Then they answered, and said to Jesus, “We cannot tell.” And Jesus answered, and said to them, “Nor will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
