12 Then Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the children of Ammon, saying, “What have you to do with me, that you have come against me, to fight in my land?”
13 And the king of the children of Ammon answered the messengers of Jephthah, “Because Israel took my land when they came up from Egypt, from Arnon to Jabbok and to Jordan. Now, therefore, restore those lands quietly.”
14 Yet, Jephthah sent messengers back to the king of the children of Ammon,
15 and said to him, “Thus says Jephthah, ‘Israel did not take the land of Moab or the land of the children of Ammon.
16 ‘But after Israel came up from Egypt and walked through the wilderness to the Red Sea, they then came to Kadesh.
17 ‘And Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, “Please let me go through your land.” But the king of Edom would not consent. And they also sent to the king of Moab, but he would not. Therefore, Israel stayed in Kadesh.
18 ‘Then they went through the wilderness and surrounded the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the eastern side of the land of Moab and camped on the other side of Arnon and did not come within the territory of Moab (for Arnon was the border of Moab).
19 ‘Israel also sent messengers to Sihon, king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon. And Israel said to him, “Please let us pass by your land to our place.”
20 ‘But Sihon did not consent to Israel going through his territory. And Sihon gathered all his people together and camped in Jahaz and fought with Israel.
21 ‘And the LORD God of Israel gave Sihon and all his people into the hands of Israel and they struck them. So, Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.
22 ‘And they possessed all the territory of the Amorites, from Arnon to Jabbok, and from the wilderness to Jordan.
23 ‘Therefore, now the LORD God of Israel has cast out the Amorites before his people, Israel. And should you possess it?
24 ‘Would not you possess that which Chemosh, your god, gives you to possess? So, whomever the LORD our God drives out before us, we will possess.
25 ‘And are you now far better than Balak, the son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he not strive with Israel and fight against them
26 ‘when Israel dwelt in Heshbon and in her towns and in Aroer and in her towns and in all the cities that are by the borders of Arnon, for three hundred years? Why, then, did you not recover them in that space?
27 ‘Therefore I have not offended you. But you do me wrong to war against me. The LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.’”
28 However, the king of the children of Ammon did not listen to the words of Jephthah which he had sent.
29 Then, the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah; and he passed over to Gilead and to Manasseh and came to Mizpah in Gilead. And he went to the children of Ammon from Mizpah in Gilead.
30 And Jephthah vowed a vow to the LORD, and said, “If You shall deliver the children of Ammon into my hands,
31 “then that thing that comes out of the doors of my house to meet me when I come home in peace from the children of Ammon, shall be the LORD’s. And I will offer it for a Burnt Offering.”
32 And so, Jephthah went to the children of Ammon to fight against them. And the LORD delivered them into his hands.
33 And he struck them from Aroer until one comes to Minnith—twenty cities, to Abel of the vineyards—with an exceedingly great slaughter. Thus, the children of Ammon were humbled before the children of Israel.
34 Now, when Jephthah came to Mizpah, to his house, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and dances. She was his only child. He had no other son or daughter.
35 And when he saw her, he tore his clothes and said, “Alas, my daughter! You have brought me low and are from those who trouble me! For I have given my word to the LORD and cannot go back!”
36 And she said to him, “My father, if you have given your word to the LORD, do with me as you have promised, seeing that the LORD has avenged you of your enemies, the children of Ammon.”
37 Also, she said to her father, “Do this much for me: allow me two months, so that I may go to the mountains and bewail my virginity, me and my friends.”
38 And he said, “Go.” And he sent her away for two months. So, she went with her companions and lamented her virginity upon the mountains.
39 And after two months, she turned back to her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed. And she had known no man. And it was a custom in Israel.
40 And the daughters of Israel went for four days every year to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite.
15 Then some from Judea came down and taught the brothers, saying, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”
2 And when there was great dissension and disputation by Paul and Barnabas against them, they ordained that Paul and Barnabas, and certain others of them, should go up to Jerusalem (to the apostles and elders) about this question.
3 Thus, being sent forth by the church, they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles. And they brought great joy to all the brothers.
4 And when they had come to Jerusalem, they were received by the church, and by the apostles and elders. And they told what things God had done through them.
5 “But,” they said, “some of the Pharisee sect who believed, rose up, saying that it was necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the Law of Moses.”
6 Then the apostles and elders came together to consider this matter.
7 And when there had been great disputation, Peter rose up, and said to them, “Men, brothers, you know that a good while ago, God chose me from among us. So that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the Word of the Gospel and believe.
8 “And God, Who knows the hearts, bore them witness in giving the Holy Ghost to them even as to us.
9 “And after He had purified their hearts by faith, He made no distinction between us and them.
10 “Now, therefore, why do you tempt God, to lay a yoke on the disciples’ necks which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
11 “But we believe we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, just as they are.”
12 Then all the multitude kept silent and heard Barnabas and Paul, who told what signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles.
13 And after their silence, James answered, saying, “Men, brothers, hear me.
14 “Simeon has declared how God first visited the Gentiles, to take a people to His Name.
15 “And the words of the Prophets agree with this. As it is written,
16 ‘After this I will return, and will rebuild the Tabernacle of David, which has fallen down. And I will rebuild the ruins thereof, and I will set it up.
17 ‘So that the remaining men - and all the Gentiles upon whom My Name is called - might seek after the Lord, says the Lord Who does all these things.’
18 “From the beginning of the world, God knows all His works.
19 “Therefore my judgment is that we do not trouble those of the Gentiles who have turned to God,
20 “but that we write to them to abstain from filthiness of idols, and from fornication, and from that which is strangled, and from blood.
21 “For Moses has, for generations, had those who preach him in every city (seeing he is read in the synagogues every Sabbath).”
22 Then it seemed good to the apostles and elders (with the whole church) to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas: namely, Judas (whose surname was Barsabas) and Silas, leaders among the brothers.
23 And they wrote letters by them like this, “The Apostles, and the Elders, and the Brothers, to the Gentile Brothers in Antioch, and in Syria, and in Cilicia, greetings,
24 “Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, and upset your minds, saying, ‘You must be circumcised and keep the Law’ (to whom we gave no such commandment),
25 “It therefore seemed good to us - after we had come together with one mind - to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul.
26 “Men who have given up their lives for the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
27 “We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.
28 “For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost (and to us) to lay no more burden upon you other than these necessary things:
29 “that you abstain from things offered to idols, and blood, and that which is strangled, and from fornication. If you keep yourselves from these, you shall do well. Farewell.”
30 Now when they had left, they came to Antioch. And after they had assembled the multitude, they delivered the letter.
31 And when they had read it, they rejoiced for the consolation.
32 And Judas and Silas, being Prophets, encouraged the brothers with many words, and strengthened them.
33 And after they had stayed there a time, they were sent back in peace by the brothers to the apostles.
34 However, Silas thought it good to remain there.
35 Paul and Barnabas also stayed in Antioch, teaching and preaching (with many others) the Word of the Lord.
36 But after some days, Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us return and visit our brothers in every city where we have preached the Word of the Lord and see how they are doing.”
37 And Barnabas planned to take John (called Mark) with them.
38 But Paul did not think it good to take with them one who had left them in Pamphylia, and not gone with them to do the work.
39 Therefore there was such a sharp disagreement that they separated from one another. And Barnabas took Mark and sailed to Cyprus.
40 And Paul chose Silas and departed, being commended by the brothers to the grace of God.
41 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, establishing the churches.
24 The LORD showed me. And behold, two baskets of figs were set before the Temple of the LORD, after Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babel, had carried away captive Jeconiah, the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and the princes of Judah with the workmen, and cunning men of Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babel.
2 One basket had very good figs, like the figs that are first. And the other basket had very bad figs which could not be eaten, they were so evil.
3 Then said the LORD to me, “What do you see, Jeremiah?” And I said, “Figs, the good figs very good and the bad very bad which cannot be eaten, they are so evil.”
4 Again, the Word of the LORD came to me, saying,
5 “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: ‘Like these good figs, so will I know those of Judah who are carried away captive to be good, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans.
6 ‘For I will set My Eyes upon them for good. And I will bring them back to this land. And I will build them and not destroy them. And I will plant them and not root them out.
7 ‘And I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the LORD. And they shall be My people, and I will be their God. For they shall return to Me with their whole heart.
8 ‘And as the bad figs which cannot be eaten, they are so evil — surely thus says the LORD — so will I give Zedekiah, the king of Judah, and his princes, and the rest of Jerusalem that remains in this land, and those who dwell in the land of Egypt.
9 ‘I will give them as a terrible plague to all the kingdoms of the Earth, for a reproach and for a proverb, for a common talk and for a curse, in all places where I shall cast them.
10 ‘And I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence among them, until they are destroyed in the land that I gave to them and to their fathers.’”
10 And He arose from there and went into the coasts of Judea, by the far side of Jordan. And the people gathered around Him again. And as usual, He taught them.
2 Then the Pharisees came and asked Him if it were lawful for a man to divorce his wife, and tempted Him.
3 And He answered, and said to them, “What did Moses command you?”
4 And they said, “Moses permitted to write a Bill of Divorcement, and to divorce her.”
5 “Then Jesus answered, and said to them, “He wrote this precept to you because of the hardness of your heart.
6 “But at the beginning of the Creation, ‘God made them male and female.’
7 “‘For this cause shall man leave his father and mother, and cling to his wife.
8 “‘And the two shall be one flesh.’ So that they are no more two, but one flesh.
9 “Therefore, what God has coupled together, let not man separate.”
10 And in the house, His disciples asked Him about that matter again.
11 And He said to them,“Whoever shall divorce his wife and marry another, commits adultery against her.
12 “And if a woman divorces her husband, and marries another, she commits adultery.”
13 Then they brought little children to Him, so He could touch them. And His disciples rebuked those who brought them.
14 But when Jesus saw it, He was displeased and said to them, “Let the little children to come to Me. And do not forbid them. For of such is the Kingdom of God.
15 “Truly I say to you, whoever shall not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child shall not enter therein.”
16 And He took them up in His arms and put His hands upon them and blessed them.
17 And when He had gone on His way, someone came running and kneeled to Him and asked Him, “Good Master, what must I do so that I may possess eternal life?”
18 Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? There is no one good but One, even God.
19 “You know the Commandments: You shall not commit adultery. You shall not kill. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness. You shall hurt no man. Honor your father and mother.
20 Then he answered, and said to Him, “Master, all these things I have observed from my youth.”
21 And Jesus looked upon him and loved him and said to him, “One thing you lack. Go and sell all that you have. And give to the poor. And you shall have treasure in Heaven. And come, follow Me. And take up the Cross.
22 But he was sad at that saying and went away sorrowful. For he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter into the Kingdom of God!”
24 And His disciples were afraid at His Words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how hard is it for those who trust in riches to enter into the Kingdom of God!
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of the needle than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God.”
26 And they were much more astonished, saying among themselves, “Who then can be saved?”
27 But Jesus looked upon them, and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For with God, all things are possible.”
28 Then Peter began to say to Him, “Lo, we have forsaken all, and have followed You.”
29 Jesus answered, and said, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has forsaken house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for My sake and the Gospels,
30 who shall not receive a hundredfold - now presently - houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands (with persecutions) and in the world to come, eternal life.
31 “But many who are first, shall be last; and the last, first.”
32 And as they were going up to Jerusalem, Jesus went before them. And they were troubled. And as they followed, they were afraid. And Jesus took the twelve again and began to tell them what things would happen to Him,
33 saying, “Behold, we go up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man shall be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes. And they shall condemn Him to death and shall deliver Him to the Gentiles.
34 “And they shall mock Him and scourge Him and spit upon Him and kill Him. But the third day, He shall rise again.”
35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying, “Master, we ask that You would do for us that which we desire.”
36 And He said to them, “What would that be?”
37 And they said to Him, “Grant to us that we may sit - one at Your right hand, and the other at Your left hand - in Your Glory.
38 But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you ask. Can you drink of the same cup as Me, and be baptized with the same baptism?”
39 And they said to Him, “We can.” But Jesus said to them, “You shall indeed drink of the same cup, and be baptized with the same baptism.
40 “But to sit at My right hand and at My left is not Mine to give. But rather, it shall be given to those for whom it is prepared.”
41 And when the other ten heard that, they began to be angry about James and John.
42 But Jesus called them to Him, and said to them, “You know that those who are princes among the Gentiles, have dominion over them. And those who are great among them exercise authority over them.
43 “But it shall not be so among you. For whoever desires to be great among you shall be your servant.
44 “And whoever desires to be your leader shall be the servant of all.
45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve; and to give His life for the ransom of many.”
46 Then they came to Jericho. And as He went out of Jericho with His disciples (and a great multitude), Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, a blind man, sat by the wayside, begging.
47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry and say, “Jesus! The Son of David! Have mercy on me!”
48 And many rebuked him and told him to be quiet. But he cried much more, “O, Son of David! Have mercy on me!”
49 Then Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer! Arise, He calls you.”
50 So he threw off his cloak and rose and came to Jesus.
51 And Jesus answered, and said to him, “What would you have Me do for you?” And the blind said to Him, “Lord, that I may receive sight.”
52 Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way. Your faith has saved you.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the way.
