M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
3 These, now, are the nations which the LORD left, so that He might test Israel by them (since many had not known all the wars of Canaan)
2 and thus make the generations of the children of Israel know, and teach them, war (which doubtless their predecessors did not know):
3 Five princes of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites who dwelt on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon until one comes to Hamath.
4 These remained to test Israel, to wit, whether they would obey the Commandments of the LORD which He commanded their fathers, by the hand of Moses.
5 And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
6 And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons, and served their gods.
7 So, the children of Israel did wickedly in the sight of the LORD, and forgot the LORD their God, and served Baal and Asherah.
8 Therefore, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against Israel. And He sold them into the hand of Cushan-Rishathaim, king of Aram-Naharaim. And the children of Israel served Cushan-Rishathaim for eight years.
9 And when the children of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD stirred up a savior for the children of Israel — Othniel, the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother — and he saved them.
10 And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war. And the LORD delivered Cushan-Rishathaim, king of Aram, into his hand. And his hand prevailed against Cushan-Rishathaim.
11 So the land had rest for forty years. And Othniel, the son of Kenaz, died.
12 Then, the children of Israel committed wickedness again in the sight of the LORD. And the LORD strengthened Eglon, king of Moab, against Israel, because they had committed wickedness before the LORD.
13 And he gathered to him the children of Ammon, and Amalek, and went and struck Israel; and they possessed the city of palm trees.
14 So, the children of Israel served Eglon, king of Moab, for eighteen years.
15 But when the children of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD stirred them up a savior — Ehud, the son of Gera, the son of Jemini — a left-handed man. And the children of Israel sent a present by him to Eglon, king of Moab.
16 And Ehud made himself a dagger with two edges, one cubit in length. And he girded it under his clothing, upon his right thigh.
17 And he presented the gift to Eglon, king of Moab (and Eglon was a very fat man).
18 And when he had presented the present, he sent away the people who bore the present;
19 but he turned back from the idols that were by Gilgal, and said, “I have a secret message for you, O king.” Who said, “Keep silent.” And all who stood around him went out from him.
20 Then Ehud came to him (and he sat alone, in a summer parlor which he had). And Ehud said, “I have a message for you from God.” Then he arose out of his throne.
21 And Ehud put forth his left hand and took the dagger from his right thigh and thrust it into his belly,
22 so that the haft went in after the blade; and the fat closed around the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly, but his feces came out.
23 Then Ehud got himself out, into the porch, and shut the doors of the parlor after him, and locked them.
24 And when he had gone out, his servants came. And seeing that the doors of the parlor were locked, they said, “Surely, he is relieving himself in his summer chamber.”
25 And they waited until they were uncomfortable. And seeing he did not open the doors of the parlor, they took the key and opened them. And behold, their lord has fallen dead on the floor.
26 So Ehud escaped (while they had been waiting) and was past the idols, and escaped to Seirah.,
27 And when he got home, he blew a trumpet on Mount Ephraim. And the children of Israel went down with him from the mountain; and he went before them.
28 Then he said to them, “Follow me! For the LORD has delivered your enemies, the Moabites, into your hand!” So, they went down after him and took the passages of Jordan toward Moab and did not allow a man to pass over.
29 And at that same time, they killed about ten thousand of the Moabites, all well-fed men, and all warriors. And not one man escaped.
30 So Moab was subdued that day, under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest for eighty years.
31 And after him came Shamgar, the son of Anath, who killed six hundred of the Philistines with an ox goad; and he also delivered Israel.
7 Then the High Priest said, “Are these things so?”
2 And he said, “You men! Brothers and fathers! Listen! The God of Glory appeared to our father Abraham while he was in Mesopotamia (before he lived in Haran),
3 “and said to him, ‘Come out of our country, and from your kindred. And come into the land which I shall show you.’
4 “Then he came out of the land of the Chaldeans and dwelt in Haran. And after his father died, God brought him from there into this land wherein you now dwell.
5 “And He gave him no inheritance in it; no, not the breadth of a foot. Yet, He promised that He would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when he still had no child.
6 “But God said this: ‘that his seed would be a sojourner in a strange land. And that they would keep it in bondage and mistreat it four hundred years.
7 ‘But the nation to whom they shall be in bondage, I will judge,’ says God, ‘And after that, they shall come forth and serve Me in this place.’
8 “He also gave him the Covenant of Circumcision. And Abraham begat Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day. And Isaac begat Jacob, and Jacob the twelve Patriarchs.
9 “And the Patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt. But God was with him,
10 “and delivered him out of all his afflictions and gave him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh, King of Egypt; who made him Governor over Egypt and his whole house.
11 “Then there came a famine over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction, so that our fathers found no sustenance.
12 “But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent our fathers first.
13 “And the second time, Joseph was known by his brethren, and Joseph’s kindred were made known to Pharaoh.
14 “Then Joseph had his father and all his kindred brought, even seventy-five souls.
15 “So Jacob went down into Egypt, and he and our fathers died.
16 “And they were removed to Shechem and were put in the sepulcher which Abraham had bought for money from the sons of Hamor of Shechem.
17 “But when the time of the promise which God had sworn to Abraham drew near, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt.
18 “Until another King arose who did not know Joseph.
19 “The same dealt craftily with our kindred, and mistreated our fathers, and made them abandon their young children, so that they would not live.
20 “At the same time, Moses was born, and was acceptable to God. He was nursed in his father’s house for three months.
21 “And when he was abandoned, Pharaoh’s daughter took him up, and brought him up as her own son.
22 “And Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was mighty in words and in deeds.
23 “Now when he was fully forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brothers, the children of Israel.
24 “And when he saw one of them being wronged, he defended him, and avenged the one who had been harmed, and killed the Egyptian.
25 “For he assumed that his brothers would have understood that God, by His hand, would give them deliverance. But they did not understand that.
26 “And the next day, he showed himself to them as they fought, and tried to reconcile them, saying, ‘Sirs, you are brothers. Why do you wrong each other?’
27 “But the one who had wronged his neighbor thrust him away, saying, ‘Who made you a prince and a judge over us?
28 ‘Will you kill me as you did the Egyptian yesterday?’
29 “Then Moses fled at those words, and was a stranger in the land of Midian, where he had two sons.
30 “And after forty years had passed, an Angel of the Lord in a flame of fire appeared to him in a bush, in the wilderness of mount Sinai.
31 “And when Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight. And as he drew near to examine it, the voice of the Lord came to him, saying,
32 ‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ Then Moses trembled, and dared not look at it.
33 “Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off your shoes from your feet. For the place where you stand is Holy Ground.
34 ‘Seeing, I have seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt. And I have heard their groaning and have come down to deliver them. And now, come, and I will send you into Egypt.
35 “This Moses whom they forsook, saying, ‘Who made you a prince and a judge?’ The same man God sent as a prince and a deliverer, by the hand of the Angel which appeared to him in the bush.
36 “He brought them out, doing wonders and miracles in the land of Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness, forty years.
37 “This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, ‘The Lord your God shall raise up to you a Prophet like me from your brothers. Him you shall hear.
38 “This is he who was in the congregation in the wilderness, with the Angel which spoke to him on mount Sinai, and with our fathers who received the living oracles to give to us;
39 “whom our fathers would not obey, but refused, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,
40 ‘saying to Aaron, ‘Make us gods that may go before us. For we do not know what has become of this Moses who brought us out of the land of Egypt.’
41 “And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
42 “Then God turned Himself away, and gave them up to serve the host of heaven, as it is written in the Book of the Prophets, ‘O House of Israel, have you offered to Me slain beasts and sacrifices for forty years in the wilderness?
43 “‘And you took up the Tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan - figures which you made to worship them. Therefore, I will carry you away beyond Babylon.’
44 “Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as He had appointed; speaking to Moses so that he would make it according to the pattern which he had seen,
45 “which our fathers also received and (with Joshua) brought into the land possessed by the Gentiles, whom God drove out before our fathers until the days of David,
46 “who found favor before God, and desired that he might find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.
47 “But Solomon built him a house.
48 “However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands. As says the Prophet,
49 ‘Heaven is My throne. And Earth is My footstool. What house will you build for Me?’, says the Lord. ‘Or, what place is it that I should rest in?
50 ‘Has not My hand made all these things?’
51 “You stiff-necked! With uncircumcised hearts and ears! You have always resisted the Holy Ghost. As your fathers did, so do you!
52 “Which of the Prophets have your fathers not persecuted? And they have killed those who foretold of the coming of the Just One, Of Whom you are now the betrayers and murderers.
53 “Who have received the law by the ordinance of angels and have not kept it.”
54 And when they heard these things, they were cut to the quick. And they gnashed at him with their teeth.
55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked steadfastly into Heaven, and saw the Glory of God; and Jesus, standing at the right hand of God,
56 and said, “Behold, I see the heavens open! And the Son of Man, standing at the right hand of God!”
57 Then they gave a shout with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him violently all at once,
58 and cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul.
59 And they stoned Stephen, who called out, saying, “Lord Jesus! Receive my spirit!”
60 And he kneeled down and cried with a loud voice, “Lord! Do not lay this sin to their charge!” And when he had spoken this, he slept.
16 The Word of the LORD came also to me, saying,
2 “You shall neither take yourself a wife nor have sons or daughters in this place.”
3 For thus says the LORD concerning the sons and concerning the daughters who are born in this place, and concerning their mothers who bear them, and concerning their fathers who beget them in this land:
4 “They shall die of deaths and diseases. They shall not be lamented, nor shall they be buried. They shall be as dung upon the Earth. And they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine. And their carcasses shall be food for the birds of the sky, and for the beasts of the earth.”
5 For thus says the LORD: “Do not enter into the house of mourning, or go to lament, or be moved for them. For I have taken My Peace from this people,” says the LORD, “mercy and compassion.
6 “Both the great and the small shall die in this land. They shall not be buried, nor shall men lament for them or cut themselves or make themselves bald for them.
7 “They shall not stretch out for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead, nor shall they give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.
8 “Also, you shall not go into the house of feasting, to sit with them to eat and to drink.”
9 For thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel: “Behold, in your days, in your eyes, I will cause the voice of mirth to cease from this place, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride.
10 “And when you shall show this people all these words, and they shall say to you, ‘Why has the LORD pronounced all this great plague against us?’ or ‘What is our iniquity and what is our sin that we have committed against the LORD our God?’
11 “Then shall you say to them, ‘Because your fathers have forsaken Me,’ says the LORD, ‘and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and worshipped them, and have forsaken Me, and have not kept My Law,
12 ‘and you have done worse than your fathers (for behold, each one walks after the stubbornness of his wicked heart and will not hear Me),
13 ‘therefore I will drive you out of this land into a land that you do not know, you nor your fathers. And there you shall serve other gods, day and night, for I will show you no grace.
14 ‘Behold, therefore,’ says the LORD, ‘the days come that it shall no more be said, “The LORD lives, Who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt,”
15 ‘but, “The LORD lives, Who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the North, and from all the lands where He had scattered them.” And I will bring them back into their land that I gave to their fathers.
16 ‘Behold,’ says the LORD, ‘I will send out many fishermen, and they shall fish for them. And afterward, I will send out many hunters. And they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the caves of the rocks.
17 ‘For My Eyes are upon all their ways. They are not hidden from My Face, nor is their iniquity hidden from My Eyes.
18 ‘And first, I will repay their iniquity and their sin double, because they have defiled My land, and have filled My inheritance with their filthy carcasses and their abominations.’”
19 O LORD, my fortress and my strength and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come to You from the ends of the world, and shall say, “Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, in which there was no profit.”
20 Shall a man make gods for himself, and they are not gods?
21 “Behold, therefore, I will teach them this once. I will show them My Hand and My Power. And they shall know that My Name is the LORD.”
2 After a few days, He entered into Capernaum again. And word spread that He was in the house.
2 And many gathered together, so much so that the places outside the door could not receive any more. And He preached the Word to them.
3 And four men came to Him carrying a paralytic.
4 And since they could not come near to Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof of the house where He was. And when they had broken it open, they let down the bed in which the sick man lay.
5 Now when Jesus saw their faith, He said to the sick man, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”
6 And some of the scribes were sitting there, reasoning in their hearts,
7 “Why does this man speak such blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God only?”
8 And immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that thus they reasoned with themselves, He said to them, “Why do you reason these things in your hearts?
9 “Is it easier to say to the paralyzed, ‘Your sins are forgiven’, or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed, and walk?’
10 “But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on Earth to forgive sins…” He said to the sick man,
11 “Arise. Take up your bed and go to your own house.”
12 And he rose immediately, and took up his bed, and went forth before them all. And they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, “We never saw such a thing!”
13 Then He went forth again toward the sea. And all the people followed Him, and He taught them.
14 And as Jesus passed by, He saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sit at the tax collector’s table. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” And he arose and followed Him.
15 And it happened that, as Jesus sat at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners also sat at table with Jesus and His disciples. For there were many who followed Him.
16 And when the Scribes and Pharisees saw Him eat with the tax collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples, “How is it that He eats and drinks with them?”
17 Now when Jesus heard it, He said to them, “The healthy have no need of the Physician, but the sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but the sinners, to repentance.”
18 And the disciples of John and the Pharisees fasted, and came and said to Him, “Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, and Your disciples do not?”
19 And Jesus said to them, “Can the children of the marriage chamber fast while the Bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the Bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
20 “But the days will come when the Bridegroom shall be taken from them. And then shall they fast, in those days.
21 “Also no one sows a piece of new cloth in an old garment. For the new piece that filled it up will take away somewhat from the old. And the breach is worse.
22 “Likewise, no one puts new wine into old vessels. For the new wine will break the vessels, and the wine will run out, and the vessels are lost. But new wine must be put into new vessels.”
23 And it happened that as He went through the corn on the Sabbath day, His disciples (as they went on their way) began to pluck the ears of corn.
24 And the Pharisees said to Him, “Why do they on the Sabbath day that which is not lawful?”
25 And He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he had need and was hungry; both he and those who were with him?
26 “How he went into the house of God, in the days of Abiathar, the High Priest, and ate the showbread, which was not lawful to eat, but only for the priests. And how he gave also to those who were with him?”
27 And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.
28 “So the Son of Man is Lord, even of the Sabbath.”
