Joshua 24

24 And Joshua assembled all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called the elders of Israel, and their heads, and their judges, and their officers; and they presented themselves before God.

Then, Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘Your fathers—Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor—dwelt beyond the river in old time and served other gods.

‘And I took your father, Abraham, from beyond the river and brought him through all the land of Canaan and multiplied his seed and gave him Isaac.

‘And I gave Jacob and Esau to Isaac. And I gave Mount Seir to Esau, to possess it. But Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.

‘I also sent Moses and Aaron and I plagued Egypt. And when I had done so among them, I brought you out.

‘So I brought your fathers out of Egypt. And you came to the Sea. And the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen, to the Red Sea.’

“Then they cried to the LORD, and He put a darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the Sea upon them, and covered them. ‘So, your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt. Also, you dwelt in the wilderness for a long season.

‘Afterward, I brought you into the land of the Amorites, who dwelt beyond Jordan. And they fought with you. But I gave them into your hand; and you possessed their country; and I destroyed them out of your sight.

‘Also, Balak, the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel and sent to Balaam, the son of Beor, to curse you.

10 ‘But I would not hear Balaam. Therefore, he blessed you; and I delivered you out of his hand.

11 ‘And you went over Jordan and came to Jericho. And the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. And I delivered them into your hand.

12 ‘And I sent hornets before you, which cast them out before you (the two kings of the Amorites, that is) not your sword or your bow.

13 ‘And I have given you a land in which you did not labor, and cities which you did not build. And you dwell in them and eat from the vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant.’

14 “Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in uprightness and in truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the river, and in Egypt. And serve the LORD.

15 “And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served (that were beyond the river) or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But I and my House will serve the LORD.”

16 Then the people answered and said, “May it never be that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods!

17 “For the LORD our God, He brought us and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; and he did those great miracles in our sight and preserved us in all the ways that we went and among all the people through whom we came!

18 “And the LORD cast all the people out before us, even the Amorites who dwelt in the land. We, also, will serve the LORD! For He is our God!”

19 And Joshua said to the people, “You cannot serve the LORD. For He is a Holy God. He is a jealous God. He will not pardon your iniquity or your sins.

20 “If you forsake the LORD and serve strange gods, then He will return and bring misery upon you, and consume you, after He has done you good.”

21 And the people said to Joshua, “No! But we will serve the LORD!”

22 And Joshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the LORD, to serve Him.” And they said, “Witnessed!”

23 “Then put away, now, the strange gods which are among you, and bow your hearts to the LORD God of Israel.”

24 And the people said to Joshua, “The LORD our God we will serve, and His Voice we will obey!”

25 So Joshua made a covenant with the people that same day and gave them an Ordinance and Law in Shechem.

26 And Joshua wrote these Words in the Book of the Law of God and took a great stone and set it up there under an oak that was in the Sanctuary of the LORD.

27 And Joshua said to all the people, “Behold, this stone shall be a witness to us! For it has heard all the Words of the LORD which He spoke with us! It shall, therefore, be a witness against you, lest you deny your God!”

28 Then Joshua let the people depart, every man to his inheritance.

29 And after these things, Joshua, the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD died, being a hundred and ten years old.

30 And they buried him on the border of his inheritance, in Timnath Serah, which is on Mount Ephraim, on the North side of Mount Gaash.

31 And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua and who had known all the works of the LORD that He had done for Israel.

32 And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought out of Egypt, they buried in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, for a hundred pieces of silver. And the children of Joseph had them in their inheritance.

33 Also, Eleazar, the son of Aaron, died. And they buried him on the hill of Phinehas, his son, which was given to him on Mount Ephraim.

Acts 4

And as they spoke to the people, the priests and the Captain of the Temple and the Sadducees came upon them,

annoyed that they taught the people and preached the resurrection from the dead in Jesus’ Name.

And they laid hands on them and put them in custody until the next day. For it was now evening.

However, many of those who heard the Word, believed. And the number of the men was about five thousand.

And on the next day it so happened that their rulers, and elders, and scribes, were gathered together at Jerusalem;

and Annas, the High Priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were in the family of the High Priest.

And when they had set them before them, they asked, “By what power, or in what Name, have you done this?”

Then Peter, full of the Holy Ghost, said to them, “Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel!

“If we are being examined today regarding the good deed done to the impotent man (or, by what means he is made whole),

10 “be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth - Whom you have crucified, Whom God raised again from the dead - by Him does this man stand here before you, whole.

11 “This is the Stone cast aside by you builders, which has become the Cornerstone.

12 “Nor is there salvation in any other. For among men there is given no other Name under heaven whereby we must be saved.”

13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John and understood that they were unlearned men and without knowledge, they marveled. And they recognized them, that they had been with Jesus.

14 And seeing also the man who was healed standing with them, they had nothing to say against it.

15 Then they commanded them to go aside, out of the council, and conferred among themselves,

16 saying, “What shall we do to these men? For surely a known sign is done by them, which is apparent to all those who dwell in Jerusalem. And we cannot deny it.

17 “But so that it goes no further among the people, let us threaten and charge them, so that they speak no more in this Name to any man.”

18 So they called them, and commanded them, that they should never speak or teach in the Name of Jesus.

19 But Peter and John answered them, and said, “Whether it is right in the sight of God - to obey you rather than God - you be the judge.

20 “For we can only speak the things which we have seen and heard.”

21 So they threatened them and let them go. And they found no way to punish them, because of the people. For they all praised God for what was done.

22 For the man upon whom this miracle of healing was shown was over forty years old.

23 Then, as soon as they were let go, they came home, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.

24 And when they heard it, they lifted up their voices in unison to God, and said, “O Lord, You are the God Who has made the heaven, and the Earth, the sea, and all things that are in them;

25 “Who, by the mouth of Your servant David, has said, ‘Why did the Gentiles rage, and the people imagine empty things?

26 ‘The kings of the Earth assembled, and the rulers came together against the Lord, and against His Christ.’

27 “For doubtless, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, gathered themselves together against Your Holy Son Jesus - Whom You have anointed -

28 “to do whatever Your hand and Your counsel had determined beforehand to be done.

29 “And now, O Lord, behold their threats. And grant to Your servants to speak Your Word with all boldness,

30 “by stretching forth Your hand. So that healing and signs and wonders may be done by the Name of Your Holy Son, Jesus.”

31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost. And they spoke the Word of God boldly.

32 And the multitude of those who believed were of one heart, and of one soul. Nor did any of them say that any possession was his own. But they shared everything.

33 And the Apostles witnessed the resurrection of the Lord Jesus with great power. And great grace was upon them all.

34 Nor were there any among them in need. For as many as possessed lands or houses sold them, and brought the price of the things that were sold,

35 and laid it down at the Apostles’ feet. And it was distributed to each according to his need.

36 Also Joses, who was called ‘Barnabas’ by the Apostles (which means ‘son of encouragement’), a Levite from the country of Cyprus,

37 sold a field which he owned. And he brought the money and laid it down at the Apostles’ feet.

Jeremiah 13

13 Thus says the LORD to me: “Go and buy yourself a linen girdle, and put it upon your loins. And do not put it in water.”

So I bought the girdle, according to the Commandment of the LORD, and put it upon my loins.

And the Word of the LORD came to me a second time, saying,

“Take the girdle that you have bought, which is upon your loins. And arise, go toward Perath, and hide it there in the cleft of the rock.”

So I went and hid it by Perath, as the LORD had Commanded me.

And after many days, the LORD said to me, “Arise, go toward Perath, and take the girdle from there, which I Commanded you to hide there.”

Then I went to Perath and dug and took the girdle from the place where I had hidden it. And behold, the girdle was ruined, profitable for nothing.

Then the Word of the LORD came to me, saying,

“Thus says the LORD: After this manner I will destroy the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

10 “This wicked people has refused to hear My Word, and walk after the stubbornness of their own heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them and to worship them. Therefore they shall be as this girdle, which is profitable to nothing.

11 “For as the girdle clings to the loins of a man, so have I tied to Myself the whole House of Israel, and the whole House of Judah,” says the LORD, “so that they might be My people, so that they might have a name and praise and glory. But they would not hear.

12 “Therefore, you shall say this Word to them, ‘Thus says the LORD God of Israel: “Every bottle shall be filled with wine.”’ And they shall say to you, ‘Do we not know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?’

13 “Then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD: “Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land—even the kings that sit upon the throne of David, and the priests and the Prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—with drunkenness.”’

14 “And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together,” says the LORD. “I will not spare. I will neither pity nor have compassion, but will destroy them.”

15 Hear and give ear! Do not be proud. For the LORD has spoken it.

16 Give glory to the LORD your God before He brings darkness, or if ever your feet stumble in the dark mountains while you look for light and He turns it into the shadow of death and makes it as darkness.

17 But if you will not hear this, my soul shall weep in secret for your pride. And my eye shall weep and drop down tears, because the LORD’s flock is carried away captive.

18 Say to the king and to the queen, “Humble yourselves. Sit down. For the crown of your glory shall come down from your heads.”

19 The cities of the South shall be shut up, and no man shall open them. All Judah shall be carried away captive. It shall be wholly carried away captive.

20 Lift up your eyes and behold those who come from the North. Where is the flock that was given to you, your beautiful flock?

21 What will you say when He shall reckon with you? For you have taught them to be captains, as chief over you. Shall not sorrow take you, as a woman in labor?

22 And if you say in your heart, “Why do these things come upon me?” For the multitude of your iniquities are your skirts uncovered and your heels made bare.

23 Can the black moor change his skin, or the leopard his spots? May you who are accustomed to doing evil also do good?

24 “Therefore, I will scatter them as the stubble that is taken away with the south wind.

25 “This is your portion, the part of your measures from Me,” says the LORD, “because you have forgotten Me and trusted in lies.

26 “Therefore, I have also uncovered your skirts upon your face, so that your shame may appear.

27 “I have seen your adulteries and your neighings, the filthiness of your whoredom on the hills, in the fields, your abominations. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! Will you not be made clean as you once were?”

Matthew 27

27 When the morning had come, all the chief priests, and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, to put Him to death.

And they led Him away, bound, and delivered Him to Pontius Pilate, the governor.

Then, when Judas (who betrayed Him) saw that He was condemned, he repented and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

saying, “I have sinned, betraying the innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? You see to it.”

And after he had thrown down the silver in the Temple, he departed, and went and hanged himself.

And the chief priests took the silver, and said, “It is not lawful for us to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.”

And they took counsel, and bought a potter’s field with it, for the burial of strangers.

Therefore that field is called, ‘The Field of Blood’, to this day.

Then that which was spoken by Jeremiah the Prophet was fulfilled, which says, “And they took thirty silver pieces, the price of the One who was valued, Whom the children of Israel valued,

10 and they gave it for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me.”

11 And Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” Jesus said to him, “You say it.”

12 And when He was accused by the chief priests and elders, He answered nothing.

13 Then Pilate said to Him, “Do You not hear how many things they lay against You?”

14 But He did not answer him, even one word; so much so that the governor marveled greatly.

15 Now at the feast, the governor would deliver a prisoner to the people, whomever they desired.

16 And there was at that time a notable prisoner called Barabbas.

17 And gathering them together, Pilate said to them, “Which do you desire me to release - Barabbas, or Jesus, who is called Christ?”

18 (For he knew well that they had delivered Him out of envy.

19 Also, when he was sitting upon the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, “Have nothing to do with that just Man. For I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of Him.”)

20 But the chief priests and the elders had persuaded the people that they should ask for Barabbas and should destroy Jesus.

21 Then the governor answered, and said to them, “Which of the two shall I release to you?” And they said, “Barabbas!”

22 Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus, who is called Christ?” They all said to him, “Let him be crucified!”

23 Then the governor said, “But what evil has he done?” Then they cried all the more, saying, “Let Him be crucified!”

24 When Pilate saw that it was no use, and that it was becoming a riot, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this just Man. You see to it.”

25 Then all the people answered, and said, “May His blood be upon us, and upon our children!”

26 Thus, he released Barabbas to them. And he scourged Jesus and delivered Him to be crucified.

27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall and gathered the whole band around Him.

28 And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him.

29 And they weaved together a crown of thorns, and put it upon His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed their knees before Him, and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”

30 And they spat on Him; and took a reed and struck Him on the head.

31 Thus, after they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, and put His own clothes back on Him. And they led Him away to crucify Him.

32 And as they came out, they found a man from Cyrene, named Simon. They compelled him to bear His cross.

33 And when they came to the place called Golgotha (that is to say, ‘Place of a Skull’)

34 They gave Him vinegar to drink, mixed with bitter herbs. And when He had tasted of it, He would not drink.

35 And when they had crucified Him, they parted His garments, and cast lots, so that which was spoken by the Prophet might be fulfilled, “They divided My garments among them, and cast lots for My clothing.”

36 And they sat and watched Him there.

37 They also wrote His charge over His head, ‘THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS.’

38 And there were two thieves crucified with Him - one on the right hand, and another on the left.

39 And those who passed by reviled Him, wagging their heads,

40 and saying, “You who destroy the Temple, and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross!”

41 Likewise also the chief priests, mocking Him with the scribes and elders and Pharisees, said,

42 “He saved others, but He cannot save Himself! If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him!

43 He trusted in God, let Him deliver Him now, if He will have Him! For He said, I am the Son of God!”

44 The thieves who were crucified with Him also reviled Him.

45 Now there was darkness over all the land, from the sixth hour to the ninth hour.

46 And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried with loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani!?”, which means, “My God, my God. Why have You forsaken Me?”

47 And some of those who stood there, when they heard it, said, “This Man calls Elijah!”

48 And immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave it to Him to drink.

49 Others said, “Let Him be! Let us see if Elijah will come and save Him!”

50 Then Jesus cried again with a loud voice; and gave up the ghost.

51 And behold, the veil of the Temple was torn in two, from the top to the bottom. And the Earth quaked. And the stones were split.

52 And the graves opened themselves. And many bodies of the saints, who slept, arose,

53 and came out of the graves after His resurrection, and went into the Holy City, and appeared to many.

54 When the centurion (and those who were watching Jesus with him) saw the earthquake, and the things which were done, they feared greatly, saying, “Truly, this was the Son of God!”

55 And many women were there (observing from far away) who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to Him.

56 Among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.

57 And when evening had come, a rich man of Arimathea named Joseph came. He had also himself been Jesus’ disciple.

58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

59 So Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

60 and put it in his new tomb which he had hewn out of a rock. And he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulcher and departed.

61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting before the sepulcher.

62 Now the next day (which followed the Preparation) the chief priests and Pharisees came to Pilate,

63 and said, “Sir, we remember that that Deceiver said while he was still alive, ‘Within three days I will rise.’

64 “Command, therefore, that the sepulcher be made secure until the third day, or else his disciples may come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, ‘He is risen from the dead!’ So the last deception shall be worse than the first.”

65 Then Pilate said to them, “You have a watch. Go and make it as secure as you can.”

66 And they went, and made the sepulcher secure with the watch, and sealed the stone.
