6 Afterward, the children of Israel committed wickedness in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD gave them into the hands of Midian for seven years.
2 And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel. Because of the Midianites, the children of Israel made themselves dens in the mountains and caves and strongholds.
3 Whenever Israel had sown, then the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and those from the East, and came upon them,
4 and camped by them and destroyed the fruit of the earth as far as Gaza, and left no food for Israel, neither sheep nor ox nor donkey.
5 For they and their cattle went up and came with their tents, as grasshoppers in multitude, so that they and their camels were without number. And they came into the land, to destroy it.
6 So was Israel exceedingly impoverished by the Midianites. Therefore, the children of Israel cried to the LORD.
7 And when the children of Israel cried to the LORD because of the Midianites,
8 the LORD sent a Prophet to the children of Israel, who said to them, “Thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘I have brought you up from Egypt and have brought you out of the house of bondage.
9 ‘And I have delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of all who oppressed you and have cast them out before you and given you their land.
10 ‘And I said to you, “I am the LORD your God. Do not fear the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell.” But you have not obeyed My Voice.’”
11 And the Angel of the LORD came and sat under the oak which was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash, the father of the Abiezrites. And his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.
12 Then the Angel of the LORD appeared to him and said to him, “The LORD is with you, you valiant man.”
13 To whom Gideon answered, “Ah, my Lord! If the LORD is with us, why then has all this come upon us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us of, and said, ‘Did not the LORD bring us out of Egypt?’ But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hand of the Midianites.”
14 And the LORD looked upon him, and said, “Go in this, your might. And you shall save Israel out of the hands of the Midianites. Have not I sent you?”
15 And he answered him, “Ah, my Lord, how shall I save Israel? Behold, my father is poor in Manasseh. And I am the least in my father’s house.”
16 Then the LORD said to him, “I will, therefore, be with you; and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.”
17 And he answered him, “Please, if I have found favor in Your sight, then show me a sign, that You are talking with me.
18 “Please do not depart from here until I come to You and bring my offering and lay it before You.” And he said, “I will wait until You come back.”
19 Then Gideon went in and prepared a kid, and unleavened bread of an ephah of flour, and put the flesh in a basket, and put the broth in a pot, and brought it out to Him under the oak, and presented it.
20 And the Angel of God said to him, “Take the flesh and the unleavened bread and lay them upon this stone and pour out the broth.” And he did so.
21 Then the Angel of the LORD put forth the end of the staff that he held in his hand and touched the flesh and the unleavened bread. And fire rose up out of the stone and consumed the flesh and the unleavened bread. So the Angel of the LORD departed out of his sight.
22 And when Gideon perceived that it was an Angel of the LORD, Gideon then said, “Alas, my Lord GOD! I have seen an Angel of the LORD face to face!
23 And the LORD said to him, “Peace be to you. Do not fear; you shall not die.”
24 Then Gideon made an Altar there to the LORD and called it Jehovah Shalom. To this day it is in Ophrah, of the father of the Abiezrites.
25 And the same night, the LORD said to him, “Take your father’s young bullock, and another bullock of seven years old, and destroy the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the grove that is by it,
26 “and build an Altar to the LORD your God upon the top of this rock, in a plain place. And take the second bullock and offer a Burnt Offering with the wood of the grove which you shall cut down.”
27 Then Gideon took ten men from his servants and did as the LORD bade him. But because he feared to do it by day because of his father’s household and the men of the city, he did it by night.
28 And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was broken, and the grove that was next to it was cut down. And the second bullock was offered upon the Altar that was made.
29 Therefore, they said one to another, “Who has done this thing?” And when they inquired and asked, they said, “Gideon, the son of Joash, has done this thing.”
30 Then, the men of the city said to Joash, “Bring out your son, so that he may die! For he has destroyed the altar of Baal and has also cut down the grove that was by it!”
31 And Joash said to all who stood by him, “Will you plead Baal’s cause? Or will you save him? He who will contend for him, let him die by the morning. If he is a god, let him plead for himself against him who has cast down his altar.”
32 And on that day, Gideon was called “Jerubbaal”; that is, “Let Baal plead for himself because he has broken down his altar.”
33 Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and those from the East were gathered together and went and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.
34 But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon; and he blew a trumpet, and Abiezer joined with him.
35 And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh, which had also joined with him. And he sent messengers to Asher and to Zebulun and to Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.
36 Then Gideon said to God, “If You will save Israel by my hand, as You have said,
37 “behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the threshing place. If the dew appears on the fleece only and it is dry upon the earth, then I shall be sure that You will save Israel by my hand, as You have said.”
38 And so it was. For he rose up early the next day and squeezed the fleece together and wrung the dew out of the fleece and filled a bowl of water.
39 Again, Gideon said to God, “Do not be angry with me, so that I may speak once more. Please let me test once again with the fleece. Let it now be dry only upon the fleece and let dew be upon all the ground.”
40 And God did so the same night. For it was dry upon the fleece only and there was dew on all the ground.
10 Furthermore, there was a certain man in Caesarea named Cornelius - a captain of the band called the ‘Italian’ -
2 a devout man, and one who feared God with all his household, who gave many alms to the people, and prayed to God continually.
3 Evidently, he saw an angel of God in a vision (about the ninth hour of the day) coming in to him and saying, “Cornelius.”
4 But when he looked at him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up in remembrance before God.
5 “Now, therefore, send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter.
6 “He lodges with one Simon, a Tanner, whose house is by the seaside. He shall tell you what you ought to do.”
7 And when the angel who spoke to Cornelius had departed, he called two of his servants and a God-fearing soldier (one of those who waited on him continually).
8 And he told them all things and sent them to Joppa.
9 The next day, about the sixth hour, as they went on their journey and drew near to the city, Peter went up on the house to pray.
10 Then he became hungry and wished to eat. But while they prepared it, he fell into a trance.
11 And he saw the sky opened. And a certain vessel came down to him, like a great sheet, tied at the four corners, and being let down to the Earth.
12 Inside were all kinds of four-footed beasts of the Earth, and wild beasts and creeping things, and birds of the heaven.
13 And there came a voice to him, “Arise, Peter. Kill, and eat.”
14 But Peter said, “Not so, Lord. For I have never eaten anything that is polluted or unclean.”
15 And the voice spoke to him again a second time, “The things which God has cleansed, do not make common.”
16 This was done three times. And the vessel was drawn up again into Heaven.
17 Now, while Peter questioned in himself what this vision which he had seen meant, behold the men who were sent from Cornelius had inquired after Simon’s house, and stood at the gate,
18 calling and asking whether Simon (who was surnamed Peter) was lodged there.
19 And while Peter thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you.
20 “Therefore, rise up. And get down. And go with them. And doubt nothing. For I have sent them.”
21 Then Peter went down to the men who had been sent to him from Cornelius, and said, “Behold, I am he whom you seek. Why have you come?”
22 And they said, “Cornelius the Captain - a just man, and one who fears God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews - was warned from Heaven by a holy angel to summon you to his house, and to hear your words.”
23 Then he called them in and lodged them. And the next day, Peter went with them, and some brothers from Joppa accompanied him.
24 And the day after that, they entered into Caesarea. Now Cornelius waited for them and had called together his family and special friends.
25 And it so happened, as Peter came in, that Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.
26 But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up. For I myself am also a man.”
27 And as he talked with him, he came in and found many who had gathered.
28 And he said to them, “You know that it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Jew to keep company with, or come near, one of another Nation. But God has shown me that I should not call any man common, or unclean.
29 “Therefore I came to you without saying no when I was summoned. I ask, then, the reason why have you sent for me?”
30 Then Cornelius said, “Four days ago, about this hour, I fasted. And at the ninth hour, I prayed in my house. And behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
31 “and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer is heard. And your alms are held in remembrance in the sight of God.
32 ‘Therefore, send to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter (he is lodged in the house of Simon a Tanner by the seaside) When he comes, he shall speak to you.’
33 “Then sent I for you immediately. And you have done well to come. Now, therefore, are we all present here before God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”
34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, “Truthfully, I perceive that God is no respecter of persons.
35 “But in every Nation, the one who fears Him, and works righteousness, is acceptable to Him.
36 “The Word - which God has sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ, Who is Lord of all -
37 “you know the Word which came through all Judea, beginning in Galilee, after the Baptism which John preached;
38 “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost, and with power - Who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil - for God was with Him.
39 “And we are witnesses of all things done by Him Whom they killed and hung on a tree (things in both the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem).
40 “God raised Him up the third day, and showed Him openly -
41 “not to all the people, but to the witnesses chosen by God beforehand - to those of us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.
42 “And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that He has been ordained by God as a judge of quick and dead.
43 “To Him also give all the Prophets witness, that through His Name all who believe in Him shall receive forgiveness of sins.”
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Ghost fell upon all those who heard the word.
45 So those of the circumcision who believed (as many as had come with Peter), were astonished because the gift of the Holy Ghost was also poured out on the Gentiles.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered,
47 “Can anyone forbid water, so that these who have received the Holy Ghost, as we have, should not be baptized?”
48 So he commanded them to be baptized in the Name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay some days.
19 Thus says the LORD: “Go and buy an earthen bottle of a potter, and take from the elders of the people, and from the elders of the priests,
2 “and go forth to the valley of Ben-Hinnom, which is by the entry of the East Gate. And you shall preach there the Words that I shall tell you,
3 “and shall say, ‘Hear the Word of the LORD, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem! Thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel: “Behold, I will bring a plague upon this place of which whoever hears, his ears shall tingle,
4 “because they have forsaken Me and profaned this place, and have burnt incense in it to other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah. They have also filled this place with the blood of innocents.
5 “And they have built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not Command. Nor did I speak it. Nor did it come into My mind.
6 “Therefore, behold. The days come,” says the LORD, “that this place shall no longer be called Topheth, or the valley of Ben-Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter.
7 “And I will bring the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem to nothing in this place. And I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those who seek their lives. And I will give their carcasses to be food for the birds of the sky, and to the beasts of the field.
8 “And I will make this city desolate, and a hissing, so that everyone who passes by it shall be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues.
9 “And I will feed them with the flesh of their sons, and with the flesh of their daughters. And everyone shall eat the flesh of his friend in the siege and distress with which their enemies, who seek their lives, shall constrain them.
10 “Then you shall break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with you,
11 “and shall say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD of Hosts: “Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter’s vessel that cannot be made whole again. And they shall bury them in Topheth, until there is no place to bury.
12 “Thus will I do to this place,” says the LORD, “and to its inhabitants. And I will make this city like Topheth.
13 “For the houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah shall be defiled, as the place of Topheth, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burnt incense to all the host of heaven and poured out drink offerings to other gods.”’”
14 Then Jeremiah came from Topheth, where the LORD had sent him to prophesy. And he stood in the court of the LORD’s House, and said to all the people,
15 “Thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Behold, I will bring upon this city, and upon all her towns, all the plagues that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks and would not hear My Words!’”
5 And they came over to the other side of the sea into the country of the Gadarenes.
2 And when He had come out of the ship, a man who had an unclean spirit met him immediately from out of the graves.
3 He dwelt among the graves. And no one could bind him, not even with chains.
4 Because, when he was often bound with shackles and chains, he broke the chains apart and destroyed the shackles. Nor could anyone tame him.
5 And always, both night and day, he cried in the mountains, and in the graves, and struck himself with stones.
6 And when he saw Jesus at a distance, he ran and worshipped Him,
7 and cried with a loud voice, and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus the Son of the Most High God!? Swear to me by God that You will not torment me!”
8 (For He said to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit.”)
9 And He asked him, “What is your name?” And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion. For we are many.”
10 And he urged Jesus not to send them away out of the country.
11 Now there was there in the mountains a great heard of swine, feeding.
12 And all the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.”
13 And immediately, Jesus gave them leave. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered into the swine. And the herd ran headlong from the high bank into the sea, (and there were about two thousand swine) and they were choked up in the sea.
14 And the swineherds fled, and told of it in the city, and in the country. And they came out to see what had been done.
15 And they came to Jesus. And they saw him who had been possessed with the demon and had the legion, sit, both clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.
16 And those who saw it told them what had been done to him who had been possessed with the demon and concerning the swine.
17 Then they began to beg Jesus to depart from their coasts.
18 And when He had come into the ship, he who had been possessed with the demon begged him to let him join them.
19 But Jesus would not allow it, and said to him, “Go home to your friends and show them what great things the Lord has done for you; and how He has had compassion on you.”
20 So he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him. And all marveled.
21 And when Jesus had come over again by ship to the other side, a great multitude gathered together to Him. And He was near the sea.
22 And behold, there came one of the rulers of the synagogue whose name was Jairus. And when he saw Him, he fell down at His feet,
23 and urgently begged Him, saying, “My little daughter lies at point of death! I beg You to come and lay Your hands on her, so that she may be healed and live!”
24 Then Jesus went with him. And a great multitude followed Him.
25 And there was a certain woman who had been diseased with an issue of blood for twelve years.
26 And she had seen many physicians and had spent all that she had. And it had availed her nothing. But rather she had become much worse.
27 When she had heard of Jesus, she joined the following crowd and touched His garment.
28 For she said, “If I may but touch His clothes, I shall be whole.”
29 And instantly, the course of her blood was dried up and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
30 And immediately, when Jesus knew in Himself the power that went out of Him, He turned and looked at the crowd, and said, “Who has touched My clothes?
31 And His disciples said to Him, “You Yourself see the crowd, and say, ‘Who touched Me?’”
32 And He looked around and saw her who had done it.
33 And the woman feared and trembled. For she knew what had been done in her. And she came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth.
34 And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you whole. Go in peace and be whole of your plague.”
35 While He was still speaking, there came from that same ruler of the synagogue’s house certain ones who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Master any further?”
36 As soon as Jesus heard that word spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid. Only believe.”
37 And He allowed no one to follow Him except Peter, James and John (the brother of James).
38 So He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue and saw the tumult and those who wept and wailed greatly.
39 And He went in, and said to them, “Why do you make this trouble, and weep? The child is not dead, but sleeps.”
40 And they ridiculed Him. But He put them all out and took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with him and entered in where the child lay.
41 And He took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which is by interpretation, “Maiden, I say to you, arise.”
42 And immediately the maiden arose and walked (for she was twelve years old). And they were most greatly astonished.
43 And He strictly charged them that no one should know of it. And commanded to give her food.
