Judges 5

Then Deborah and Barak, the son of Abinoam, sang the same day, saying,

“Praise the LORD for the avenging of Israel, and for the people who offered themselves willingly!

“Hear, you kings! Listen, you princes! I will! I will sing to the LORD! I will sing praise to the LORD God of Israel!

“LORD, when You went out of Seir, when You departed out of the field of Edom, the Earth trembled, and the skies rained! The clouds also dropped water!

“The mountains melted before the LORD, that Sinai before the LORD God of Israel.

“In the days of Shamgar, the son of Anath (in the days of Jael), the highways were unoccupied and the travelers walked through byways.

“The towns were not inhabited. They decayed, I say, in Israel. Until I, Deborah, came up, who rose up a mother in Israel.

“They chose new gods. Then, war was in the gates. Was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand of Israel?

“My heart is with the governors of Israel, on those who are willing among the people. Praise the LORD!

10 Speak, you who ride on white donkeys, you who dwell by Middin, and who walk by the way.

11 “At the sound that divides the flock among the troughs of water, there shall they recount the righteousness of the LORD, His righteousness of His towns in Israel. Then the people of the LORD shall go down to the gates.

12 “Up Deborah! Up! Arise! Sing a song! Arise Barak, and lead your captives away, you son of Abinoam!

13 “For those who remain have dominion over the mighty of the people. The LORD has given me dominion over the strong.

14 “From Ephraim, their root arose against Amalek. After you, Benjamin, against your people, from Machir, came rulers, and from Zebulun, those who handle the pen of the writer.

15 “And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah and Issachar and also Barak. He was set on his feet in the valley. For among the divisions of Reuben were great thoughts of heart.

16 “Why did you abide among the sheepfolds, to hear the bleatings of the flocks? For among the divisions of Reuben were great thoughts of heart.

17 “Gilead abode beyond Jordan. And why does Dan remain in ships? Asher sat on the seashore and waited in his decayed places.

18 “The people of Zebulun and Naphtali have jeopardized their lives until death in the high places of the field.

19 “The kings came and fought. Then the kings of Canaan fought in Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo. They received no monetary gain.

20 “They fought from the sky. The stars in their courses fought against Sisera.

21 “The River Kishon swept them away, that ancient river, the river Kishon. O my soul, you have marched valiantly!

22 “Then, the horses’ hooves were broken with the oft-beating-together of their mighty men.

23 “‘Curse you, Meroz!’ said the Angel of the LORD, ‘Curse its inhabitants, because they did not come to help the LORD, to help the LORD against the mighty!’

24 “Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, shall be blessed above women. She shall be blessed above women in tents.

25 “He asked for water; she gave him milk. She brought forth butter in a lordly dish.

26 “She put her hand to the nail and her right hand to the workman’s hammer. With the hammer, she struck Sisera. She struck off his head, after she had wounded and pierced his temples.

27 “He bowed down at her feet. He fell down and lay still. At her feet, he bowed down and fell. And when he had sunk down, he lay there, dead.

28 “The mother of Sisera looked out at a window and cried through the lattice, ‘Why is his chariot so long in coming? Why do the wheels of his chariots tarry?’

29 “Her wise ladies answered her. Yea, she answered herself with her own words,

30 ‘Have they not gotten and divided the spoil, every man having a maid or two? Sisera has a prey of diverse colored garments, a prey of sundry colors made of needle work, of diverse colors of needle work on both sides, for the chief of the spoil.’

31 “So let all your enemies perish, O LORD! But those who love Him shall be as the Sun when he rises in His might!” And the land had rest for forty years.

Acts 9

And Saul, still breathing out threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the High Priest,

and asked for letters to Damascus, to the synagogues, so that if he found any who were of the Way, (either men or women) he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

Now as he journeyed, it so happened that as he drew near to Damascus, there suddenly shone around him a light from Heaven.

And he fell to the Earth, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?”

And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” And the Lord said, “I am Jesus, Whom you persecute. It is hard for you to kick against goads.”

Then, both trembling and astonished, he said, “Lord, what will You have me do?” And the Lord said to him, “Arise, and go into the city. And it shall be told to you what you shall do.”

The men who journeyed with him also stood amazed - hearing the voice but seeing no one.

And Saul arose from the ground and opened his eyes but saw no man. Then, led they him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus,

where he was without sight for three days, and neither ate nor drank.

10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias. And the Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” And he said, “Behold, I am here, Lord.”

11 Then the Lord said to him, “Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight. And look in the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus. For behold, he prays.”

12 “And in a vision, he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hands on him, so that he might receive his sight.”

13 Then Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man; how much evil he has done to your saints at Jerusalem.

14 “Moreover, here he has the authority of the chief priests to bind all that call on Your Name.”

15 Then the Lord said to him, “Go. For he is a vessel chosen by Me to bear My Name before the Gentiles, and Kings, and the children of Israel.

16 “For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My Name’s sake.”

17 Then Ananias went, and entered that house, and put his hands on him, and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, Who appeared to you on the way as you came, has sent me, so that you might receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Ghost.”

18 And immediately something like ‘scales’ fell from his eyes. And suddenly he received sight, and arose, and was baptized,

19 and received food and was strengthened. So, Saul was with the Damascus disciples for some days.

20 And immediately he preached Christ in the synagogues, that He was the Son of God.

21 So that all who heard him were amazed, and said, “Is not this he who harassed those who called on this Name in Jerusalem, and came here for that purpose, so that he could bring them bound to the chief priests?”

22 But Saul increased all the more in strength, and confounded the Jews who dwelt at Damascus, confirming that this was the Christ.

23 And after that many days had passed, the Jews conspired to kill him.

24 But their plot was known by Saul. Now, they watched the gates day and night, so that they might kill him.

25 Then the disciples took him at night. And, by rope, they let him down through the wall in a basket.

26 And when Saul had come to Jerusalem, he attempted to join the disciples. But they were all afraid of him, and did not believe that he was a disciple.

27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the Apostles, and told them how he had seen the Lord on the road. And that he had spoken to Him. And how he had spoken boldly at Damascus in the Name of Jesus.

28 And he was with them, coming in and going out, at Jerusalem.

29 And he spoke boldly in the Name of the Lord Jesus and spoke and disputed against the Hellenists. But they sought to kill him.

30 But when the brothers knew it, they brought him to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.

31 Then the Churches had rest through all Judea, and Galilee, and Samaria, and were edified, and walked in the fear of the Lord, and were multiplied by the comfort of the Holy Ghost.

32 And it so happened that as Peter walked throughout all quarters, he also came to the saints who dwelt in Lydda.

33 And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had been sick of the palsy and lying on a mat for eight years.

34 Then Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ makes you whole. Arise, and make your bed.” And he arose immediately.

35 And all who dwelt in Lydda and Sharon, saw him, and turned to the Lord.

36 There was also a certain woman in Joppa, a disciple named Tabitha (which means ‘Dorcas’). She was full of good works and alms which she did.

37 And it so happened in those days that she fell sick and died. And after they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.

38 Now since Lydda was near Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent two men to him, asking that he not delay in coming to them.

39 Then Peter arose and came with them. And when he had come, they brought him into the upper room, where all the weeping widows stood by him and showed him the coats and garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them.

40 But Peter put them all out; and kneeled down, and prayed, and turned to the body, and said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes. And when she saw Peter, she sat up.

41 Then he gave her his hand and lifted her up, and called the saints and widows, and presented her alive.

42 And it was known throughout all Joppa. And many believed in the Lord.

43 And it so happened that he stayed in Joppa many days with one Simon, a tanner.

Jeremiah 18

18 The Word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

“Arise, and go down into the potter’s house, and there shall I show you My Words.”

Then I went down to the potter’s house. And behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.

And the vessel that he made of clay was broken in the hand of the potter. So he returned and made it another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make.

Then the Word of the LORD came to me, saying,

“O House of Israel! Cannot I do with you as this potter,” says the LORD? “Behold, as the clay in the potter’s hand, so you are in My Hand, O House of Israel.

“I will speak suddenly against a nation, or against a kingdom, to pluck it up and to root it out and to destroy it.

“But if this nation against whom I have pronounced turns from their wickedness, I will turn from the plague that I had thought to bring upon them.

“And I will speak suddenly concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build it and to plant it.

10 “But if it does evil in My sight, and does not hear My Voice, I will turn from the good that I had thought to do for them.

11 “Speak now, therefore, to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD: “Behold, I prepare a plague for you, and plan something against you. Therefore, every one of you return from his evil way, and make your ways and your works good.”

12 ‘But they said desperately, “Surely we will walk after our own imaginations. And every man will follow the stubbornness of his wicked heart.”

13 ‘Therefore, thus says the LORD: “Ask now who has heard such things among the heathen. The virgin of Israel has done very filthily.

14 “Will a man forsake the snow of Lebanon, which comes from the rock of the field? Or shall the cold, flowing waters that come from another place be forsaken?

15 “Because My people have forgotten Me and have burnt incense to worthless idols, causing them to stumble in their ways from the ancient ways and to walk in the pathway that is not built up,

16 “and making their land desolate and a perpetual derision, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and wag his head.

17 “I will scatter them with an east wind before the enemy. I will show them My Back, and not My Face, in the day of their destruction.”

18 ‘Then they said, “Come, and let us imagine some device against Jeremiah! For the Law shall not perish from the Priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the Word from the Prophet. Come and let us strike him with the tongue! And let us not consider any of his words!”’”

19 Listen to me, O LORD, and hear the voice of those who contend with me.

20 Shall evil be repaid for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before You, to speak good for them, to turn away Your wrath from them.

21 Therefore, deliver up their children to famine, and let them drop away by the force of the sword. Let their wives be robbed of their children and be widows. And let their husbands be put to death. Let their young men be killed by the sword in the battle.

22 Let the cry be heard from their houses when You shall suddenly bring an army upon them. For they have dug a pit to take me, and hidden snares for my feet.

23 Yet, LORD, You know all their deadly counsel against me. Do not forgive their iniquity or blot out their sin from Your sight. But let them be overthrown before You. Deal with them in the time of Your anger!

Mark 4

And He began again to teach by the seaside. And there gathered to Him a great multitude. So that He entered into a ship and sat in the sea. And all the people were by the seaside, on the land.

And He taught them many things in parables, and said to them in His doctrine,

“Hear now. Behold, there went out a sower to sow.

“And it happened that, as he sowed, some fell by the wayside. And the birds of the heaven came and devoured it up.

“And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth. And it quickly sprang up, because it had not depth of earth.

“But as soon as the Sun was up, it was burnt up. And because it had no root, it withered away.

“And some fell among the thorns. And the thorns grew up and choked it, so that it gave no fruit.

“Some again fell in good ground, and did yield fruit, that sprang up and grew. And it brought forth - some thirtyfold, some sixtyfold, and some a hundredfold.”

Then He said to them, “Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.”

10 And when He was alone, those who were around Him, with the twelve, asked Him of the parable.

11 And He said to them, “To you it is given to know the mystery of the Kingdom of God. But to those who are outside, all things are done in parables,

12 “So that those seeing may see, and not discern. And those hearing may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should turn, and their sins should be forgiven them.”

13 Again He said to them, “Do you not perceive this parable? How then shall you understand all other parables?

14 “The sower sows the Word.

15 “And these are those who receive the seed by the wayside, in whom the Word is sown. But when they have heard it, Satan comes immediately and takes away the Word that was sown in their hearts.

16 “And likewise, those who receive the seed in stony ground are those who (when they have heard the Word) immediately receive it with gladness.

17 “Yet they have no root in themselves and endure but a time. For when trouble and persecution arise for the word, they fall away immediately.

18 “Also those who receive the seed among the thorns, are those who hear the Word,

19 “but the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches and the lusts of other things enter in and choke the Word. And it is unfruitful.

20 “But those who have received seed in good ground, are those who hear the Word and receive it and bring forth fruit - one corn thirty, another sixty, and some a hundred.”

21 Also He said to them, “Does the candle come in to be put under a bushel, or under the bed, and not to be put in a candlestick?

22 “For there is nothing hidden that shall not be opened. Nor is there a secret that shall not come to light.

23 “If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”

24 And He said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear. With whatever measure you use, it shall be measured to you. And to you who hear shall more be given.

25 “For to him who has shall it be given. And from him that has not shall be taken away even that he has.”

26 Also He said, “So is the Kingdom of God: as if a man should cast seed in the ground

27 “and should sleep and rise up night and day. And the seed should spring and grow up, he not knowing how.

28 “For the Earth brings forth fruit from itself; first the blade, then the ears; after that, full corn in the ears.

29 “And as soon as the fruit shows itself, he puts in the sickle to it. Because the harvest has come.”

30 He said moreover, “To what shall we liken the Kingdom of God? Or, with what shall we compare it?

31 “It is like a grain of mustard seed; which, when it is sown in the earth, is the least of all seeds on the Earth.

32 “But after it is sown, it grows up and is greatest of all herbs and bears great branches. So that the birds of the heaven may build under the shadow of it.”

33 And with many such parables He preached the Word to them, as they were able to hear it.

34 And He spoke nothing to them without parables. But He expounded all things to His disciples separately.

35 Now the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us pass over to the other side.”

36 And they left the multitude and entered into a ship. And there were also other little ships with Him.

37 And a great storm of wind arose. And the waves dashed into the ship, so that it was now full.

38 And He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Master, don’t you care that we perish!?”

39 And He arose and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace, and be still!” So, the wind ceased. And there was a great calm.

40 Then He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?”

41 And they feared exceedingly and said one to another, “Who is this, that both the wind and the sea obey Him?”
