The Forgotten God

“We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.” 1 Corinthians 2:12

In 2009 Francis Chan wrote an eye-opening book called The Forgotten God: Reversing Our Tragic Neglect of the Holy Spirit. Although the Holy Spirit is one part of the Trinity, we typically hear less of Him in our churches today than of God and Jesus.

But take note! The Holy Spirit was active in creation (Genesis 1:2). He was involved in the conception of Jesus (Luke 1:35). He descended on Jesus during His baptism (Matthew 3:16), and then He led Jesus into the desert (Matthew 4:1). He convicts the world of sin (John 16:8) and enables us to be Jesus’ witnesses (Acts 1:8). He reveals spiritual truths (John 14:26, John 16:13). He helps us in our weakness (Romans 8:26). If we’re true believers, He lives in us (John 3:5-7) and empowers us to live according to Christ’s commands (Galatians 5:22). Paul writes about wisdom from the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 2:6-16.

Since all Scripture is God-breathed, His very Spirit works in our hearts when we read the Bible. Take time to discover the riches you have in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.
