1 Thessalonians 2:6
Print
nor sought we glory from men, neither from you nor yet from others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
nor seeking glory of men, neither from you nor from others, when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ.
nor did we seek glory and honor from people, neither from you nor from anyone else, though as apostles of Christ we had the power to assert our authority.
Nor did we seek to extract praise and honor and glory from men, either from you or from anyone else, though we might have asserted our authority [stood on our dignity and claimed honor] as apostles (special missionaries) of Christ (the Messiah).
Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
and we didn’t seek glory from people, either from you or from others.
We didn’t ask for special treatment from people—not from you or from others—
Nor did we seek human praise — either from you or from others.
We were not trying to get you or anyone else to praise us.
nor seeking glory from men, neither from you nor from others, when we might have been a charge as Christ's apostles;
nor seeking glory from people— neither from you, nor from others,
Nor sought we glory of men, neither of you, nor of others.
We were not looking for praise from people—not from you or anyone else.
We did not want anyone to say that we are great people. We did not want you to do that, or anyone else.
Also, we did not seek the praise of people (neither yours nor anyone else’s),
Nor did we seek glory from people, whether from you or from others, though we could have made demands as apostles of Christ.
Nor did we seek glory from people, whether from you or from others, though we could have made demands as apostles of Christ.
We were not looking for human ·praise [glory], from you or anyone else,
Neither sought we praise of men, neither of you, nor of others, when we might have been chargeable, as the Apostles of Christ.
We didn’t seek praise from people, from you or from anyone else,
We did not try to get praise from anyone, either from you or from others,
and we didn’t seek glory from people, either from you or from others.
We were not looking for praise from you or anyone else. We are apostles of Christ. When we were with you, we could have used our authority to make you do things.
We did not seek praise from people—from you or from anyone else—
Our message to you is true, our motives are pure, our conduct is absolutely above board. We speak under the solemn sense of being trusted by God with the Gospel. We do not aim to please men, but to please God who knows us through and through. No one could ever say, as again you know, that we used flattery to conceal greedy motives, and God himself is witness to our honesty. We made no attempt to win honour from men, either from you or from anybody else, though I suppose as Christ’s own messengers we might have done so. Our attitude among you was one of tenderness, rather like that of a devoted nurse among her babies. Because we loved you, it was a joy to us to give you not only the Gospel of God but our very hearts—so dear did you become to us. Our struggles and hard work, my brothers, must still be fresh in your minds. Day and night we worked so that our preaching of the Gospel to you might not cost you a penny. You are witnesses, as is God himself, that our life among you believers was honest, straightforward and above criticism. You will remember how we dealt with each one of you personally, like a father with his own children, stimulating your faith and courage and giving you instruction. Our only object was to help you to live lives worthy of the God who has called you to share the splendour of his kingdom.
nor did we seek glory of men neither of you nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome unto you as the apostles of Christ.
Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
nor seeking glory from men, either from you or from others, even though as apostles of Christ we could have been a burden to you.
nor seeking glory from people, neither from you nor from others.
As for praise, we have never asked for it from you or anyone else, although as apostles of Christ we certainly had a right to some honor from you.
Even though we had some standing as Christ’s apostles, we never threw our weight around or tried to come across as important, with you or anyone else. We weren’t standoffish with you. We took you just as you were. We were never patronizing, never condescending, but we cared for you the way a mother cares for her children. We loved you dearly. Not content to just pass on the Message, we wanted to give you our hearts. And we did.
Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you, or from others, even though we might have made demands as the apostles of Christ.
Neither did we seek praise from men, whether from you or from others.
We didn’t seek praise from people, from you or from anyone else,
nor did we seek praise from human beings, either from you or from others,
nor did we seek honor from people, either from you or from others, though we could have asserted our authority as apostles of Christ.
nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, even though as apostles of Christ we might have asserted our authority.
Neither did we seek praise from human beings, whether from you or from others.
We were not looking for human praise, from you or anyone else,
nor to seek glory from people, either from you or from others,
We were not expecting people to praise us. We were not looking for praise from you or anyone else. Yet as Christ’s apostles, we could have used our authority over you.
We were not looking for praise from people, not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority.
We were not looking for praise from people, not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority.
Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.
We never looked for thanks from men, not from you or from anyone else. But because we were missionaries of Christ, we could have asked you to do much for us.
As for human praise, we have never sought it from you or anyone else.
Nor did we seek praise from men: not from you, nor yet from any others, when we might have imposed ourselves upon you as the apostles of Christ.
nor did we seek praise from mortals, whether from you or from others,
nor did we seek praise from mortals, whether from you or from others,
nor did we seek praise from mortals, whether from you or from others,
nor did we seek praise from mortals, whether from you or from others,
We weren’t looking for recognition from anybody, either you or anyone else—
Nor seeking kavod from men, neither from you nor from others.
Nor did we seek the praise of man - either by you or by others - when we might have imposed on you as the Apostles of Christ.
nor did we seek glory from men, whether from you or from others, though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.
nor did we seek glory from men, whether from you or from others, though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.
or seeking glory from people, whether from you or from others,
We didn’t come seeking respect from people—not from you or anyone else—although we could have leveraged our position as emissaries of the Anointed One, the Liberating King.
nor seeking glory from men (neither from you nor from others), when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ.
And we did not ask you or anybody else to help us or to praise us. Of course, we are apostles of Christ, and we had the right to do so.
neither seeking glory of men, neither of you, neither of others, when we, as Christ's apostles, might have been in charge to you [when we might have been chargeous to you, as Christ's apostles].
nor seeking of men glory, neither from you nor from others, being able to be burdensome, as Christ's apostles.
