1 Thessalonians 2:7
Print
But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children.
But we were gentle in the midst of you, as when a nurse cherisheth her own children:
But we behaved gently when we were among you, like a devoted mother tenderly caring for her own children.
But we behaved gently when we were among you, like a devoted mother nursing and cherishing her own children.
But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:
Although we could have been a burden as Christ’s apostles, instead we were gentle among you, as a nurse nurtures her own children.
although we could have thrown our weight around as Christ’s apostles. Instead, we were gentle with you like a nursing mother caring for her own children.
As emissaries of the Messiah, we could have made our weight felt; but instead, we were gentle when we were with you, like a mother feeding and caring for her children.
But as apostles, we could have demanded help from you. After all, Christ is the one who sent us. We chose to be like children or like a mother nursing her baby.
but have been gentle in the midst of you, as a nurse would cherish her own children.
[although] being able to be with weight as apostles of Christ. But we proved-to-be child-like in your midst. As when a nurse cherishes her children,
Whereas we might have been burdensome to you, as the apostles of Christ: but we became little ones in the midst of you, as if a nurse should cherish her children:
When we were with you, as apostles of Christ we could have used our authority to make you help us. But we were very gentle with you. We were like a mother caring for her little children.
We could have used our authority over you, because we are Christ's apostles. But instead, we chose to be kind to you and to help you. We took care of you, like a mother takes care of her little children.
even though we could have been a burden as Christ’s apostles. On the contrary, we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children.
But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children.
But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children.
even though as apostles of Christ we could have ·used our authority over you [thrown our weight around; exercised our prerogatives]. But we were very gentle with you, like a ·mother [nurse; nursing mother] caring for her [L own] little children.
But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children.
although as apostles of Christ we had the right to do this. Instead, we were gentle when we were with you, like a mother taking care of her children.
even though as apostles of Christ we could have made demands on you. But we were gentle when we were with you, like a mother taking care of her children.
Although we could have been a burden as Christ’s apostles, instead we were gentle among you, as a nursing mother nurtures her own children.
But we were very gentle with you. We were like a mother caring for her little children.
even though as apostles of the Messiah we might have made such demands. Instead, we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother tenderly caring for her own children.
Our message to you is true, our motives are pure, our conduct is absolutely above board. We speak under the solemn sense of being trusted by God with the Gospel. We do not aim to please men, but to please God who knows us through and through. No one could ever say, as again you know, that we used flattery to conceal greedy motives, and God himself is witness to our honesty. We made no attempt to win honour from men, either from you or from anybody else, though I suppose as Christ’s own messengers we might have done so. Our attitude among you was one of tenderness, rather like that of a devoted nurse among her babies. Because we loved you, it was a joy to us to give you not only the Gospel of God but our very hearts—so dear did you become to us. Our struggles and hard work, my brothers, must still be fresh in your minds. Day and night we worked so that our preaching of the Gospel to you might not cost you a penny. You are witnesses, as is God himself, that our life among you believers was honest, straightforward and above criticism. You will remember how we dealt with each one of you personally, like a father with his own children, stimulating your faith and courage and giving you instruction. Our only object was to help you to live lives worthy of the God who has called you to share the splendour of his kingdom.
¶ But we were gentle among you, as a mother feeding and caring for her children,
But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:
But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:
But we proved to be gentle among you, as a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children.
Although we could have insisted on our own importance as apostles of Christ, yet we became infants in your midst, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children.
But we were as gentle among you as a mother feeding and caring for her own children.
Even though we had some standing as Christ’s apostles, we never threw our weight around or tried to come across as important, with you or anyone else. We weren’t standoffish with you. We took you just as you were. We were never patronizing, never condescending, but we cared for you the way a mother cares for her children. We loved you dearly. Not content to just pass on the Message, we wanted to give you our hearts. And we did.
But we were gentle among you, like a nurse caring for her own children.
Although we could have made demands as apostles of Christ, we were gentle among you, like a mother tenderly nursing · her own children.
although as apostles of Christ we had the right to do this. Instead, we were gentle when we were with you, like a mother taking care of her children.
although we were able to impose our weight as apostles of Christ. Rather, we were gentle among you, as a nursing mother cares for her children.
But we proved to be gentle among you. As a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children,
But we proved to be gentle among you, as a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children.
As apostles of Christ, we could have imposed our will on you, yet we were as gentle in our treatment of you as a mother nursing and caring for her own children.
even though as apostles of Christ we could have used our authority over you. But we were very gentle with you, like a mother caring for her little children.
although we could have imposed our weight as apostles of Christ; instead we became little children among you. Like a nursing mother caring for her own children,
Instead, we were like young children when we were with you. As a mother feeds and cares for her little children,
Instead, we were like young children among you. Just as a nursing mother cares for her children,
Instead, we were like young children among you. Just as a nursing mother cares for her children,
But we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children.
Instead, we were gentle when we came to you. We were like a mother caring for her children.
As apostles of Christ we certainly had a right to make some demands of you, but instead we were like children among you. Or we were like a mother feeding and caring for her own children.
But we were tender among you. Even as a nurse-mother cares for her children,
though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, like a nurse tenderly caring for her own children.
though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, like a nurse tenderly caring for her own children.
though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, like a nurse tenderly caring for her own children.
though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, like a nurse tenderly caring for her own children.
though we could have imposed on you, as the Messiah’s emissaries. But we were gentle among you, like a nurse taking care of her own children.
Even though we had the samchut [authority] to be able to throw our weight around as Shlichim (Emissaries) of Moshiach, yet we became anav (humble) and eidel (gentle) among you, as a nursing imma (mother) might take care of her own yeladim.
But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherishes her children.
But we were gentle among you, like a nurse taking care of her children.
But we were gentle among you, like a nurse taking care of her children.
even though we could have thrown our weight around as emissaries of Messiah. Rather, we proved to be infants among you. Like a nursing mother cherishes her children,
Instead, we proved to be gentle among you, like a nursing mother caring for her own children.
But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children.
But we were kind when we were with you. We were like a woman taking care of her own children.
But we were made little in the middle of you, as if a nurse foster her sons;
But we became gentle in your midst, as a nurse may cherish her own children,
