Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
BOOK 1
The Way of the Righteous and Wicked
1 How blessed is the man who (A)does not walk in the (B)counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the (C)way of sinners,
Nor (D)sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his (E)delight is (F)in the law of [a]Yahweh,
And in His law he meditates (G)day and (H)night.
3 And he will be like (I)a tree firmly planted by [b]streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its [c]leaf does not wither;
And [d]in whatever he does, (J)he prospers.
The Magnitude of Israel’s Iniquity
12 “Therefore you are to say this word to them, ‘Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, “Every jug is to be filled with wine.”’ And they will say to you, ‘Do we not very well know that every jug is to be filled with wine?’ 13 Then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says Yahweh, “Behold, I am about to fill all the inhabitants of this land—the kings that sit for David on his throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—with (A)drunkenness! 14 I will (B)shatter them against each other, both the (C)fathers and the sons together,” declares Yahweh. “I will (D)not spare nor show pity nor have compassion so as not to ruin them.”’”
15 Listen and give ear, do not be (E)haughty,
For Yahweh has spoken.
16 (F)Give glory to Yahweh your God,
Before He brings (G)darkness
And before your (H)feet [a]stumble
On the dusky mountains;
And while you are hoping for light,
He makes it into the (I)shadow of death
And turns it into dense gloom.
17 But (J)if you will not listen to it,
My soul will (K)cry in secret for such pride;
And my eyes will bitterly weep
And flow down with tears
Because the (L)flock of Yahweh has been taken captive.
18 Say to the (M)king and the queen mother,
“(N)Take a lowly seat,
For your beautiful (O)crown
Has come down from your head.”
19 The (P)cities of the Negev have been closed up,
And there is no one to open them;
All (Q)Judah has been taken away into exile,
Wholly taken away into exile.
26 “Brothers, sons of Abraham’s family, and those among you who fear God, to us the word of (A)this salvation was sent. 27 For those who live in Jerusalem, and their (B)rulers, (C)recognizing neither Him nor the [a]utterances of (D)the prophets which are (E)read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning Him. 28 And though they found no ground for death, they (F)asked Pilate that He be [b]executed. 29 And when they had (G)finished all that was written concerning Him, (H)they took Him down from (I)the tree and (J)laid Him in a tomb. 30 But God (K)raised Him from the dead; 31 and for many days (L)He appeared to those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, the very ones who are now (M)His witnesses to the people. 32 And we (N)proclaim to you the good news of (O)the promise made to the fathers, 33 that God has fulfilled this promise [c]to our children in that He (P)raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm, ‘(Q)You are My Son; today I have begotten You.’ 34 But that He (R)raised Him up from the dead, no longer to return to corruption, He has spoken in this way: ‘(S)I will give you the holy and [d]faithful lovingkindnesses of David.’
