Psalm 56

In God I Trust, I Shall Not Be Afraid

For the choir director. According to [a]Jonath Elem Rehokim. A [b]Mikhtam of David. [c]When the Philistines seized him in Gath.

56 Be gracious to me, O God, for man has [d](A)trampled upon me;
All day long, an attacker (B)oppresses me.
My foes have [e](C)trampled upon me all day long,
For many (D)attack me proudly.
[f]When I am (E)afraid,
[g]I will (F)trust in You.
(G)In God, whose word I praise,
In God I trust;
I shall not be afraid.
(H)What can mere [h]man do to me?
All day long they [i](I)distort my words;
All their [j](J)thoughts are against me for evil.
They [k](K)attack, they lurk,
They (L)watch my heels,
As they have (M)hoped to take my [l]life.
On account of their wickedness, (N)will they have an escape?
In anger, (O)bring down the peoples, O God!

You (P)have taken account of my wanderings;
Put my (Q)tears in Your bottle.
Are they not in (R)Your book?
Then my enemies will (S)turn back (T)in the day when I call;
This I know, [m]that (U)God is for me.
10 In God, whose word I praise,
In Yahweh, whose word I praise,
11 In God I [n]trust, I shall not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
12 Your (V)vows are binding upon me, O God;
I will [o]fulfill thank offerings to You.
13 [p]For You have (W)delivered my soul from death,
Indeed (X)my feet from stumbling,
So that I may (Y)walk before God
In the (Z)light of the [q]living.

1 Kings 17:8-16

Then the word of Yahweh came to him, saying, “Arise, go to (A)Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and remain there; behold, (B)I have commanded a widow there to sustain you.” 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath, and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks; and (C)he called to her and said, “Please get me a little water in a [a]jar, that I may drink.” 11 So she went to get it, and he called to her and said, “Please get me a piece of bread in your hand.” 12 But she said, “(D)As Yahweh your God lives, (E)I have no [b]bread, only a handful of flour in the [c]bowl and a little oil in the jar; and behold, I am gathering [d]a few sticks that I may go in and prepare for me and my son, that we may eat it and (F)die.” 13 Then Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go, do as you have said, but make me a little bread cake from [e]it first and bring it out to me, and afterward you may make one for yourself and for your son. 14 For thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘The [f]bowl of flour shall not be exhausted, nor shall the jar of oil [g]be empty, until the day that Yahweh sends rain on the face of the earth.’” 15 So she went and did according to the word of Elijah, and she and he and her household ate for many days. 16 The [h]bowl of flour was not exhausted nor did the jar of oil [i]become empty, according to the word of Yahweh which He spoke by the hand of Elijah.

1 Corinthians 2:6-16

Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are (A)mature, a wisdom, however, not of (B)this age nor of the rulers of (C)this age, who are (D)being abolished. But we speak God’s wisdom in a (E)mystery, the wisdom which has been hidden, which God (F)predestined before the (G)ages to our glory, (H)which none of the rulers of (I)this age has understood; for if they had understood it, they would not have crucified (J)the Lord of glory. But just as it is written,

(K)Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard,
And which have not entered the heart of man,
All that God has prepared for those who love Him.”

10 [a](L)But to us God revealed them (M)through the Spirit, for the Spirit searches all things, even the (N)depths of God. 11 For who among men knows the depths of a man except the (O)spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the depths of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we (P)have received, not the spirit of (Q)the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the depths graciously given to us by God, 13 of which depths we also speak, (R)not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, [b]combining spiritual depths with spiritual words.

14 But [c]a (S)natural man (T)does not accept the depths of the Spirit of God, for they are (U)foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because (V)they are spiritually examined. 15 But he who is (W)spiritual examines all things, yet he himself is examined by no one. 16 For (X)who has known the mind of the [d]Lord, that he will direct Him? But (Y)we have the mind of Christ.
