Avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, and fights about the Law, because they are useless and worthless.
But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, quarrels and fights about the Torah; because they are worthless and futile.
But don’t have anything to do with stupid arguments about ancestors. And stay away from disagreements and quarrels about the Law of Moses. Such arguments are useless and senseless.

But avoid foolish controversies, arguments about genealogies, quarrels, and fights about the Law. These things are useless and worthless.
For we ourselves have known what it is to be ignorant, disobedient and deceived, the slaves of various desires and pleasant feelings, while our lives were spent in malice and jealousy—we were hateful and we hated each other. But when the kindness of God our saviour and his love towards man appeared, he saved us—not by virtue of any moral achievements of ours, but by the cleansing power of a new birth and the moral renewal of the Holy Spirit, which he gave us so generously through Jesus Christ our Saviour. The result is that we are acquitted by his grace, and can look forward to inheriting life for evermore. This is solid truth. Subjects like this are always good and useful but mind you steer clear of stupid arguments, genealogies, controversies and quarrels over the Law. They settle nothing and lead nowhere. If a man is still argumentative after the second warning you should reject him. You can be sure that he has a moral twist, and he knows it.
¶ But avoid foolish questions and genealogies and contentions and debates concerning the law, for they are unprofitable and vain.
But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and contentions and quarrels about the law, for they are useless and fruitless.
Don’t get involved in arguing over unanswerable questions and controversial theological ideas; keep out of arguments and quarrels about obedience to Jewish laws, for this kind of thing isn’t worthwhile; it only does harm.
I want you to put your foot down. Take a firm stand on these matters so that those who have put their trust in God will concentrate on the essentials that are good for everyone. Stay away from mindless, pointless quarreling over genealogies and fine print in the law code. That gets you nowhere. Warn a quarrelsome person once or twice, but then be done with him. It’s obvious that such a person is out of line, rebellious against God. By persisting in divisiveness he cuts himself off.
But avoid foolish debates, genealogies, contentions, and arguments about the law, for they are unprofitable and useless.
But shun foolish speculations and genealogies and strife and quarrels about the law, for they are harmful and useless.

But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, quarrels, and fights about the law, because they are useless and empty.
But keep away from foolish disagreements. Don’t argue about family histories. Don’t make trouble. Don’t fight about what the law teaches. Don’t argue about things like that. It doesn’t do any good. It doesn’t help anyone.
But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.
But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.
But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless.
Do not argue with people about foolish questions and about the Law. Do not spend time talking about all of your early fathers. This does not help anyone and it is of no use.
Do not get involved in foolish discussions about spiritual pedigrees or in quarrels and fights about obedience to Jewish laws. These things are useless and a waste of time.

Listen, don’t get trapped in brainless debates; avoid competition over family trees or pedigrees; stay away from fights and disagreements over the law. They are a waste of your time.
but shun foolish questionings, genealogies, strife, and disputes about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
Have nothing to do with: foolish quarrels; lists of people who lived long ago; those who make trouble and argue about the law. These things do not help people and are good for nothing.
And eschew thou foolish questions, and genealogies, and strivings [and strives], and fightings of the law; for those be unprofitable and vain.
and foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about law, stand away from -- for they are unprofitable and vain.
