2 Corinthians 2:2
Print
For if I make you sorrowful, who is he then who maketh me glad, but the same who is made sorrowful by me?
For if I make you sorry, who then is he that maketh me glad but he that is made sorry by me?
For if I cause you grief [by a well-deserved rebuke], who then provides me enjoyment but the very one whom I have made sad?
For if I cause you pain [with merited rebuke], who is there to provide me enjoyment but the [very] one whom I have grieved and made sad?
For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?
For if I cause you pain, then who will cheer me other than the one being hurt by me?
If I make you sad, who will be there to make me glad when you are sad because of me?
For if I cause you pain, who is left to make me happy except the people I have pained?
If I make you feel bad, who would be left to cheer me up, except the people I had made to feel bad?
For if *I* grieve you, who also [is] it that gladdens me, if not he that is grieved through me?
For if I grieve you, who indeed is the one cheering me except the one being grieved by me?
For if I make you sorrowful, who is he then that can make me glad, but the same who is made sorrowful by me?
If I make you sad, then who will make me happy? Only you can make me happy—you, the ones I made sad.
You are the only people who can make me happy. So, if I make you sad, there will be nobody to make me happy.
For if I make you sad, then who is there to make me glad, other than those I made sad?
For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained?
For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained?
If I ·make you sad [cause you pain/sorrow], who will make me glad? Only you can make me glad—·particularly the person [or those] whom I made sad [C either the church generally, or a particular opponent (vv. 5–10)].
For if I make you sorry, who is he then that should make me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?
After all, if I had made you uncomfortable, how could you have cheered me up when you were uncomfortable?
For if I were to make you sad, who would be left to cheer me up? Only the very persons I had made sad.
For if I cause you pain, then who will cheer me other than the one being hurt by me?
If I make you sad, who will make me happy? Only you can make me happy—you whom I made sad.
After all, if I were to grieve you, who should make me happy but the person I am making sad?
And I made up my mind that I would not pay you another painful visit. For what point is there in my depressing the very people who can give me such joy? The real purpose of my previous letter was in fact to save myself from being saddened by those whom I might reasonably expect to bring me joy. I have such confidence in you that my joy depends on all of you! I wrote to you in deep distress and out of a most unhappy heart (I don’t mind telling you I shed tears over that letter), not, believe me, to cause you pain but to show you how deep is my care for your welfare.
For if I make you grieve, who is he then that shall make me glad, but the same who is grieved by me?
For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?
For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?
For if I cause you sorrow, who then makes me glad but the one whom I made sorrowful?
For if I cause you sorrow, then who will make me glad except the one who is caused to be sad by me?
For if I make you sad, who is going to make me happy? You are the ones to do it, and how can you if I cause you pain?
That’s why I decided not to make another visit that could only be painful to both of us. If by merely showing up I would put you in an embarrassingly painful position, how would you then be free to cheer and refresh me?
For if I make you sorrowful, who then will there be to make me rejoice, but the one whom I have made sorrowful?
For if I cause you sorrow, then who is there to make me glad except the one made sorrowful by me?
After all, if I had made you uncomfortable, how could you have cheered me up when you were uncomfortable?
For if I inflict pain upon you, then who is there to cheer me except the one pained by me?
For if I cause you sorrow, who then will be the one making me glad but the one who is made sorrowful by me?
For if I cause you sorrow, who then makes me glad but the one whom I made sorrowful?
For if I cause you pain, then who would be there to cheer me up aside from you whom I offended?
If I make you sad, who will make me glad? Only you can make me glad—particularly the person whom I made sad.
For if I make you sad, who would be left to make me glad but the one I caused to be sad?
If I make you sad, who is going to make me glad? Only you, the people I made sad.
For if I grieve you, who is left to make me glad but you whom I have grieved?
For if I grieve you, who is left to make me glad but you whom I have grieved?
For if I make you sorrowful, then who is he who makes me glad but the one who is made sorrowful by me?
If I make you sad, who is going to make me happy? How can you make me happy if I make you sad?
For if I cause you grief, who will make me glad? Certainly not someone I have grieved.
For if I make you sorrowful, who is it that should make me glad, but the same who are made sorrowful by me?
For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained?
For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained?
For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained?
For if I cause you grief, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have grieved?
After all, if I make you sad, who is there to cheer me up except the one who is sad because of me?
For if I grieve you, then who is the one cheering me except the one I have caused to have agmat nefesh?
For if I grieve you, who then should make me glad but the same one who is grieved by me?
For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained?
For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained?
For if I cause you sorrow, then who is there cheering me on but the one I have made sorrowful?
If my visits create such pain and sorrow for you, who can cheer me up except for those I’ve caused such grief?
For if I make you grieve, then who will make me glad but he who is made to grieve by me?
For if I make you sad, who is going to make me glad? No one, but the one I made sad.
For if I make you sorry, who is he that gladdeth me, but he that is sorrowful of me?
for if I make you sorry, then who is he who is making me glad, except he who is made sorry by me?
